Putting a SNES in an Arcade cabinet. Help!

So how hard is it to put a SNES or any console for that matter in an arcade cabinet? I'd like to put a SNES or NES in my Nintendo Playchoice. Is it serious work connecting to that monitor? And connecting the joystick wiring? Has anyone ever done this?

Well, I would think the whole process would be much easier if you were putting the console in a jamma cab.

You'll have to wire up
-Controls
-Video
-Sound(For the snes you'd have to wire up an external sound amp.)
-Power


It's doable, but it's not easy.

I say to gut the monitors, put in a tv, and then hack the controllers for your interface. Granted that is mostly because I am quite fearful of doing anything with old monitors.

Converters are available for arcade monitors, but they aren't very mainstream and they can get expensive. You can get a converter that will allow you to hook up composite video to the monitor, which would be perfect for NES or SNES.

But to tell you the truth, if you'd consider, you're much better off using a PC inside the cab. If you wanna play NES and SNES games, you can just use an emulator. Plus, you get the benefit of being able to use MAME... so you'd pretty much have a MAME arcade that you can also use NES and SNES emulators on.

I'm nearly certain all SNES systems output RGB, so converting from composite would be blasphemy. still, I agree that an emulation cab would probably be a better investment.

I believe a USA SNES will only output RGB after a mod.

Yeah seems like a pc/mame deal is best. I dont know the 1st things about all that. Is it basically just emulators and roms on the pc? How do you connect the arcade controls to the pc?

SNES2 requires a mod, otherwise, you just need a 220 microfarad cap. on R, G, and B.

A lot easier, in my opinion, and you'll end up with a MUCH more versatile product.
