Yeah, that was already 10-15 years. Even watching Jurassic Park isn't retro, it's just watching a movie. It's not even that old of a movie, comparatively.
Retro refers to style. It has nothing to do with how old something else.
Case in point: No one will ever say that an old house, 20 years old, 40 years old, 100 years old, is retro. Whoever coined the bastardized term "retro gaming" and all those other neologisms really had no idea what the word meant.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
You're correct that retro is a style. So if you have a house from the 60's with all the original decor you would call it retro. Whereas a house that's been updated continuously would not be. First 60's fashion was retro, then 80's fashion was retro. Whether it is new items in that style or original items you get from a flea market does not matter. Just accept that we're getting old and the shit we like becomes retro to the new generation.

Negative. You can have 100% of a house built yesterday filled with items made this year and still be "retro," if the interior and those items were designed with the look of the 60s in mind.MrPopo wrote:You're correct that retro is a style. It has nothing to do with how old it actually is.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
There was a lot of conversation on what retro gaming is and one of the bad definitions that does not hold true is if the console is 2 generations old (ps3 is retro?!).
In a conversation, @BoneSnapDeez gave basically the best definition, and thats basically "retro is what is gone out of style and no longer mainstream". Since PES on PS2 basically plays the same way as PES on PS5 with better graphics, its not retro. But Mario on Switch is surely very different from Mario NES, making Mario NES definitely retro!
Its the same reason why T-Shirts from the 70s are not retro because still everyone wears t-shirts, but not the tight-waist-wide-leg trousers!

Its actually retro even to us. The new generation seems to like the retro games just as much, I didn't do a survey but many seem to go back and enjoy games like Sonic on Genesis and probably feel its better than a new release on PS5.MrPopo wrote:Just accept that we're getting old and the shit we like becomes retro to the new generation.

I feel like you're intentionally being obtuse. Especially since I specifically called out new items in an old style being one way of something being retro.o.pwuaioc wrote:Negative. Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Retro is about the age of a distinct or recognizable style. Anything old isn’t retro. It has to also be distinct.

Honestly, I think he misread your post, while you said it can be retro and new I believe he misread it as "can't be retro and new". Read too fast i am guessing.MrPopo wrote:I feel like you're intentionally being obtuse. I am all for protecting your work but the more you annoy me the more likely I will pirate it. Like BD discs that punishes you for not being natively supported on most OSs although you paid for it, but if you torrent it that file will work any where!PretentiousHipster wrote:Speaking of the copyright convo before, this is hilarious

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Is it actually possible to interact a laserdisc player/drive to any modern os? Like could you stream laserdisc media into an emulator with a small modification, or is it necessary to have DAC pre-convert it to a file?
