...I finally saw Bumblebee, I think it was pretty good. Easily much better than all of the previous Transformers movies. I think I'll pick up a copy around around Black Friday this year or if I see it for a decent price before then I'll grab it.

Deep Cover
I had seen this many years ago and have been wanting to watch it again for a while. I think this movie is trying to be much deeper (no pun intended, I mean drama-wise) than it actually is. Still, this movie has a sort of style to it and it's a fun watch. It's neat to see Jeff Goldblum as a criminal. And there's a few recognizable faces where you think, "Oh yeah, what ever happened to that guy?" Like the IRS guy from The Untouchables and Franklin from Don't Tell Mom the Babysitters Dead (that's right, I went there).

Trail and Error
This movie was directed by Jonathan Lynn. You know what else he directed? My Cousin Vinny. I guess he wasn't done with trial/courtroom comedies. Although this isn't nearly as good as My Cousin Vinny. It has a few laughs, but it's much more a rom-com. Austin Pendleton is the judge (he plays the the public defendant in My Cousin Vinny) and I find him to be hilarious. His reactions are what make me laugh the most in this movie. And to top that off, the one time I had to go to traffic court the judge I got acted very much like this (tho a little less comical) and I was trying to to laugh.
Until I just looked him up on IMDB, I did not know that Jonathan Lynn was the screenplay writer of Clue, which is my favorite comedy movie. He's also credited as writer for Nuns on the Run. I had seen Nuns on the Run years ago and wouldn't mind watching it again. Sadly, it looks like the Region 1 DVD release is quite rare, it never got a BD release, and it doesn't look like it's streaming on anything.

Maniac (1980)
After watching one horror movie with Joe Spinell and Caroline Munro I figured I'd watch the other. I went in expecting a slasher, but what I got was a very dark and gritty take on a serial killer. I liked it, but it was not what I expected.

The Irishman
I just rewatched Casino, which made me want to rewatch Good Fellas, which made me feel like I should finally watch The Irishman. Overall, I would say it was very good. But of the three Scorsese mob movies, Casino is still my favorite. The Irishman is almost three and a half hours long, but it didn't ever feel like it was dragging. It felt less roller coaster-y and less action-y compared to the other two, but still never felt like it was dragging. I guess there's a certain tension you feel throughout the entire movie because you know what's going to eventually happen (you just don't know how).
The de-aging CG on their faces was pretty amazing. The first time you see young Pesci his face looked very CG to me, but after that scene it either looked better or I got use to it and it stopped being apparent (probably the later). Even with the de-aging, I felt like DeNiro still looked a little old even when he was playing his younger self. Maybe that's because I just watched Casino, Good Fellas, and The Irishman back to back (to back). But I think DeNiro and Pesci were the perfect age for these roles. And the roles weren't written for them at their ages, this was adapted from a book. Pesci played an energetic psycho in Casino and Good Fellas, be he plays a calm boss in The Irishman. DeNiro's character is also somewhat of a calm, reserved man. Even when the character is being violent, he has a certain calmness about it. So I think it worked out better that an older DeNiro played this role.
Overall, I thought it was great.

A gorgeous fantasy film, set in a modern post-magic fantasy world, that I totally recommend to fantasy buffs and RPG fanatics.
Hope we get a sequel.

A lovely Italian gothic horror tale starring Barbara Steele. The imagery and characters are on point, but the bits of unpolished plot hold it back just enough to keep it from being a high-point of the genre.

An odd little pseudo-slasher filled with dumb characters, a villain who seems more interested in putting on a show than killing people, and a plot with enough holes in it to drive a Mac truck through. It also contains a lot of interesting/bizarre religious undertones, but the plot's so thin that I'm not sure even the movie knows where it's going with them.

Take Marvel hokeyness and DC darkness and you have an Indonesian superhero film. As the pilot for their new cinematic universe, it goes from being silly fun to crushingly dark in a scene. Its about a guy that gets super strength and healing when he is struck by lighting and so he fights the gangs that keep the people down. Its the first of four films greenlight in the universe which will culminate in the Avengers like film Patriot in 2025. All of the films will be over the top and dark.
It also doesnt hurt that a friend of mine made the hero's costumes...

That guy's facial expression just kills me.
A generic, though decently well made, budget slasher that suffers horribly from a generic plot, inane dialogue, and some of the dumbest characters put to film that were not impended by illegal or hallucinogenic substances. Seriously, some of these guys are like the patron saints of dumb horror film characters. Never have I been so enraged by poor decision making
