The best PS2 wireless controller. (in my opinion)

Post by omer »

For a long time...a very long time, I've always wanted a wireless PS2 controller....no cord, no annoyance, no restrictions. However, every store I've been to only carried these ugly and uncomfortable PS2 wireless controllers made by third party companies. Did SONY not make an official fucking wireless controller after all these years? Logitech's widely renowned PS2 wireless controller is absolutely hideous with the gayest D-pad i have ever seen. Don't get me wrong, im sure the Logitech controller works just fine, but the cool "sleek" shape of the controller is what kills it. So I gave up looking...
...Until today! I went to GameStop to buy a 360 game and stumbled across a used Katana Wireless SONY PS2 Controller (2.4 gHz). It's officially licensed by Sony. I must definitely say, this is by far the best PS2 wireless controller that I know exists. Meaning that this controller is on point with fine quality. The Katana controller feels ALMOST exactly the regular DualShock2 controller and might I add it also looks like it. What's impressive is that the pressure sensitivity and timing is precise. It takes 3 AAA batteries and has a receiver that lights up midnight blue, which you plug into PS2 controller slot...it's literally plug and play. Also it takes about 1 minute to automatically turn off if it's been sitting idle. I love this controller and it has completely changed the way I play my PS2.

Katana Wireless PS2 Controller

-2.4 GHz Wireless controller
-Elastimere Finish (is polymer with the property of elasticity)
-Full Analog/Digital Buttons and Twin Analog Control Stick
-Vibration Feedback
-Operates up to 50 feet with up to 50 hours of continuous play

PROS:
-button sensitivity and timing for a wireless controller is outstanding
-feels and looks ALMOST exactly like the DualShock2
-play comfortably anywhere in a 50 foot radius.
-plug and play (with auto shut off)
-change Vibration mode

CONS:
Uses three AAA batteries (Lasts 50 hours of continuous non-stop play)
Slightly heavier than DualShock2

I'm a very picky person when it comes to using console controllers. I believe that Playstation DualShock controller is the best console controller ever designed to comfortably fit everyone for videogame gameplay than any other joystick controller for any console.

Wow, that actually does look like a pretty good wireless. I'd say it's akin to the Wavebird, and everyone really likes that guy.

Yeah those do look nice but what kills it for me is the D-Pad's floatiness, and the cell phone style vibration compared to sony's controller.

Still what ticks me off is that GS refuses to carry these, and the only place to pick one up new is Wal-Mart (ugh...) or Target (too far away to justify a $20 purchase).

Also while I understand your dislike for the Logitec controller It was liscensed by Sony for about four years before it expired and was given to Katana.

I'd definitely rather have the logitech controller, I've always found dual shocks to be incredibly uncomfortable and I don't care for the buttons. My only real problem with the logitech is that the adapter is kinda big and it gets in the way on a slim ps2.

Too bad you dislike Logitech. Everything in my house is Logitech, and has been that way since I got the Logitech Precision for $5 at Target, which blew the pants off of any other PC controller that would often times be 5-10 times more than that.

In fact, the d-pad was one of the reasons I liked Logitech's controller over Sony's own. I hate the segmented d-pad, makes playing fighters a chore.

As much as it is a fauxpa to link to gamestop - Logitech PS2 controller:

My question about them is if they work on the PSX? The logitech one claims compatibility but Ive never heard anyone who has done it.
