GameGear Component
So, my gamegear just stopped working. I opened it up and a strange looking component (it was blue, and about the size as the other capacitors on it). I noticed it was loose and it was the problem. I carefully pulled it out to reattach it. The leads on it were too small to solder back on though. So I peeled off the plastic coating on the thing. I found that all it was was wire coiled up around a metal (not a magnet). So I tried to connect the two points where it was attached to the board with a piece of wire. I turned it on and it worked. BTW, this is a two chip GameGear model. What is this component? Is it safe just to keep the wire instead of the coiled wire? Is this component easy to find?
Re: GameGear Component
I'd guess that was an inductor, and the piece of metal inside is non-conducting (so no electromagnet responce). It should be easy to find a replacement as long as you have the casing still intact to read its values off of.
