Internet sales tax?

According to the New York Post, Congress is about to consider a new bill that will force online retailers to charge sales tax.

If it's true, some places are expecting almost immediate hikes in prices of online goods. Apparently the bill is targeting such websites as Amazon, Overstock, and possibly even eBay. God I hope this is a bad joke...

I heard this story for a few years now, and have feared it since. I LOVE buying online, I HATE going to stores. This would really suck for me.

they're taking another whack at it.

Hrmmm... I wouldn't be surprised if it makes it real soon seeing the considerations of Congress lately.

Not liking the idea, I kinda get it... and it makes sense "tax" wise. But still, not looking forward to it.

Didn't Amazon fire like everybody they had employed in NY so people who lived in NY wouldn't have to pay sales tax? The law only applied to businesses with employees and offices/centers in NY I believe.

WHAT!?

I hope that isn't true. Do you have a link to any story about that??? That's messed up. That's like profiling by demographic... not cool in my book. (heh, that's kind of redundant in a literal sense, but you guys know what I mean in the PC sense).

As far as I know Amazon has never had a facility in NY. All their corporate employees are relocated to wherever we have offices, and the FCs are hired from the local populace. I know the company reincorporated in Delaware for tax reasons, but I've never heard of New York.

Think yourselves lucky. We've had to pay tax on everything online or in the streets regardless.
