Re: Together Retro: Eighties' Ladies' Night
I messed with some lady arcade games tonight via MAME. First up was Flashgal, which was moderately amusing until the jet ski stage. The jet ski stage started making me hate life, so I put it away.
Then I played some Bullet, an esoteric twin stick shooter. You can play as a bikini wearing girl and shoot aliens and robots, alrighty then. Unfortunately the game was silly hard, with very limited lives. I imagine someone could practice enough to 1CC it. That's not gonna happen for this guy, because I didn't think the game was fun enough to bother.
BUT
I did play through these...

Been meaning to beat this one since I was nine years old (had it on SMS).
Play as a lady (or a dude, or both) and kill lots of aliens.
Save the hostages before shit blows up.
Alien Syndrome was not bad at all.
Small review here.

And this is another game I had on SMS (sort of), and wanted to try the arcade version of.
You can't really "beat" this game per se. But you can beat the AI over and over though. I guess that counts.
There's an S&M theme going on in this game.
I don't know how that made me feel. Squishy?
Small review here.
Well that's eight games I've gone through for ELN.
I plan to finish up three more if life plays nice.

Ooh, forgot about Alien Syndrome. That's one of those classics I never really played much of.

Alien Syndrome is a really fun take on a Gauntlet-like game. I never cared much for the quite different Master System version but the NES game is a surprisingly decent port outside of the odd color palette.

What are the big differences there? From my hazy memories of the SMS version, the arcade version seemed quite the same.Gunstar Green wrote:the quite different Master System version

Thanks for the suggestions, guys
I didn't think of Metroid and Phantasy Star for some dumb reason (must be tired ha) and I have yet to play either!
I think I might try out Metroid first. I already have a copy of the ROM so I'll probably start playing it today

I spent about 45 minutes grinding in Legend if the Ghost Lion last night (because, you know, it’s a Dragon Quest clone). I forgot to save before I turned off the system. Never again!
Re: Together Retro: Eighties' Ladies' Night
That's crazy, AJ. You're a mad-person. I wish you had recorded it, just so I could see it, and still not know how you managed to beat it. I watched plenty of people jump over the golem with Meya, and land on the ground on the other side, which was just impossible for me to do without dying instantly, while still in the air. So, basically what I'm saying is, I wasn't even close to getting that to work.alienjesus wrote:Also, my last crown acquired was Xemn's, and that was a bad idea. Xemn doesn't shoot as fast as the ladies or Pochi, and I literally couldn't make my shots go fast enough to pierce the golem's fireball barrage.
In the end I beat the golem by running up to the fight with the shield and then swapping to the glove ASAP and laying into him. This took several attempts to actually work, and was total luck when it did.
Oh, yeah. That one got me too, even though I had basically been warned to hold left on it, beforehand. Truth be told, after getting warped into the far reaches of the dungeon by just about every goddess block other than the right one, I consulted this route map, at the bottom: http://izuito.net/game/fc-dragonslayer4/#cnt5.alienjesus wrote:Also, you can get to the Dragon Slayer without jumping on an enemy, but it's still super trolly - you have to fall left from a teleporter you go through. Of course, there's no actual way to know to do so without trial and error and even then you'd have no idea that it was worth attempting.
So, the one I was talking about is the one where you're on the "ark," unable to grab the Dragon Slayer, and have to trek down to the warp way at the bottom of that descent. The wall right before the warp (above the room with the wings) was where I was only able to get over with a boost from one of the enemies. The first time, I did it pretty quickly, but the second time, it took me about ten minutes of waiting for a certain pattern from one of the enemies, and killing them if they got stuck in a pit.
