Elkin convinced me to do a Racketboy-based naming theme for my soldiers, so perhaps expect some stories about incredible heroics and horrible death in the RPG progress thread soon X3

Excellent, Partridge. Skullfuck the enemy.

I've wrapped up Might and Magic VI and am moving on to the game Revenant, a Diablo-clone from Eidos. It will serve as a palate cleanser before I look back into diving into another big RPG.

Played some Nine Parchments on Switch with a friend today. It was pretty darn fun! It's a Magicka-style action game designed by the guys who made Trine. It was described to me as a more "deep and colorful Magicka," which is a point with which I'll have to absolutely disagree, but it's still a fun game.

Magicka has silent protagonists, but the characters around them are so colorful. Nine Parchments basically has no story or characters, just the dressings of both. It doesn't have the spell creations that Magicka does, but instead has a spell system more like Diablo III. It has a jump mechanic to dodge attacks, as well as a blink ability that you can do to dodge, but other than your melee (which is actually quite good), the combat isn't terribly complicated compared to Magicka. It's certainly more user-friendly than Magicka, but I'd say Magicka is more fun to play, personally. I'll write more up on it when I finish it, but I probably won't finish it until the next time I have a hang out session with my friend, which won't be for a while, probably Xp

It's got some problems, but I'd recommend it if you like Magicka and want more of a game like that, or even if you almost liked Magicka and wanted something a bit more simple :)

I'm playing through Dragon Quest VIII on 3DS. I originally played some of it on PS2, but didn't get very far, as I got sidetracked by irl events. Portable games make more sense for me.

I'm still plodding through Valkyrie Drive -Bhikkhuni- on Vita; since I missed my goal of finishing it by January 31, I'm not rushing anymore. I'm also playing Galaxy on Fire 2 on Steam. It's decently fun, but it feels a little rough around the edges. The vibe from it, though, is like if Firefly had a boring story and bad acting. In addition to that, I'm playing a bit of Adventures in Equus: Unicorn Training on my phone on and off. It's the first full release from Yotes Games (who's one of my best friends), and I want to finish that, but the difficulty is pretty....unforgiving. I'm ALSO playing through Final Fantasy Legend when I get some time during my planning period and when I'm staying after school with kids for tutoring or study hall. I reckon I'm somewhere around halfway through that game. Lastly, I'm about to start Ys IV on PC Engine CD. I have high hopes for that one.

Right now, I'm starting up Lunar: Eternal Blue on Sega CD. I just finished Lunar: Silver Star Story, so I figured I'd carry on with the sequel. I haven't played through the game completely in years, so my memory is a bit foggy on all of the details, and I haven't gone very far into the game yet. I also have the PS versions of both games; unless I get bored with them or sidetracked, I'll likely play through those two next.

I also just started Y's for the Master System. Haven't gotten far enough into that game to give any sort of opinion on it. I've always wanted to play the Y's series; I almost bought the TurboGrafx-16 version. I saw the Master System version, and decided to give that a try first.

I'm generally playing Call of Duty: WWII and Halo: Master Chief Collection a few times a week, since my friends and I will generally hop on one of those games after work.

Finally, I'm playing Mega Man 3. Yes, the Mega Man series are nearly all the same game; find robot master, defeat robot master, take robot master's weapon, repeat another five or seven times, chase Wily down in a fortress that would put a dent in Bill Gates' wallet, defeat robot masters and possibly some version of Devil robot, find Wily, make Wily cry uncle, wait for sequel. In spite of that, they're still fun games with levels and bosses that can challenge a player without being horrifically impossible. What's really disappointing is my own performance. I used to be able to beat Mega Man 3 in a couple of hours without much effort. Now? I've got a lot of rust to shake off; Snake Man almost gave me a hard time.

Okay, so Ys IV didn't happen - I can't make the fucking file mount to a virtual CD drive, and when I try to burn a disc, it won't burn quite right (audio distortions and eventual freezing) - but I did manage to beat Galaxy on Fire 2 tonight, and I'm hoping to finish Valkryie Drive tomorrow.

I started playing XCOM Enemy Within again this week. I was in the mood for a strategy game and it was the easiest to play. I haven't played it for 2 years. I decided to try Impossible difficulty. It truly is, nearly impossible. The jump in difficulty from Classic (Hard mode) to Impossible (Extreme) is huge. I cannot fathom playing Impossible + Ironman. Major kudos to those that have done that.

In the tactical layer, each alien encounter is frightening and if you trigger two pods on accident, you might as well reload your save. Your soldiers have to gang up on single enemies because they have more health while your guys do little damage and can't hit the broad side of a barn. Enemies can easily 1-shot your soldiers since they're ill-equipped for taking plasma shots!
I had to ignore the first terror mission which caused Russia to immediately leave the XCOM project. There was no way I could do any good in that mission with regular guns and no vests.

Managing Panic is paramount in the strategic layer. And making spending mistakes can doom your game weeks later.

I'm nearing the end of the second month with 4 counties having left the project. Hopefully my new uplinks and increased satellites will stabilize the situation. I also got laser rifles and vests (3 days after the terror mission occurred) so my soldiers are performing better in combat. At times Impossible does not feel fun to play since you suffer so much (especially at the beginning) and the game is unfair, but I'll keep at it.
"Challenging my unit was both foolish and reckless! You are nothing more than my prey... one that is soon to be retired!"

In Enemy Within I always feel like satellites is priority one while taking a beaten in the early game.
