Burning Dreamcast Games on a MAC

Post by newt42 »

This probably wont work, but is it possible to burn a Dreamcast game by simply dragging and dropping the .cdi file onto a blank CD?
Systems: SNES, PS1, GBA SP, Gamecube, DS Lite, Wii, PS3 (Fully Backwards Compatible), Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, a Sega CD, and a Sega Saturn.

The best program for burning on a mac is Toast. It should be compatable with .cdi images but just in case I would check the program specs.

Dragging the .cdi file to the cd icon will simply write the file to the disc, not create a playable dreamcast cd. If the mac recognizes the .cdi file as a cd image it will allow you to burn it using the OS, but you really should be using a seperate program like Toast to do this.

If you have access to Xp/Vista, Alcohol 120% is the best program for burning any game image.

Its a REAL pain if its a self booting image. Things have to be perfect or you'll end up burning a lot of coasters. Save yourself the frustration and burn the images on a PC with DiscJuggler.

I used to burn these on a mac back in 99/2000 running OS9 and it was a bitch. OSX isn't much better as far as I know.

Good luck

i tried once, and will admit i have a street fighter 3 coaster at home.

i dont know why people don't just create/upload an image, and simply say 'burn that', everything i found was all 'CD-ROM X audio gaps etc etc etc'. my brief attempt ended in failure, haven't tried recently tho as my DC is many miles away.

whatever you find, give it a go at just burning as an image. i thought fuck it and tried it with the saturn games and it worked perfectly.

afaik toast should work fine. Don't listen to all the crap out there about dummy files, audio gaps etc. it's incredibly outdated information. Any decent dc image is no more complicated to burn than anything else.

just came by to echo this statement. I've tried to burn dreamcast games on a mac for years with many different programs and never had any success. If you have an intel mac- just run parallels so you can use discjuggler in xp. It is so crazy easy to do, and you'll save yourself a lot of headaches and frustration.

The thing about a Dreamcast game is that it can be up to 1 GB in size, which is more than a CD. So they can't always create an image for the disc. Sometimes it needs to be chopped up some.

Hey, thanks guys. Thankfully enough, I only ended up with one coaster. I decided it would be stupid to impatiently drag and and drop the files without listening to you guys first. Thanks a bunch!

I do have the Windows XP OS on my MAC in a separate hard drive partition. The only reason why I wanted to do it on the MAC OS was because thats the partition with all the Dreamcast games on it. :) I'll give Alchohal %120 a try.
