I never understood why it says "Do not use rubbing alcohol" on the back of the carts when almost EVERY one uses it. I still have a cleaning kit from back in the day, it has a "special solution" that I use. Recently I've been opening up my carts to give them a really good scrubbing. I guess when the cleaning solution finally runs out, I'll get a higher % rubbing alcohol to use.

I remember when I was little we thought it just said that so that you had to buy the nintendo cleaning kit.

I second the 90% alcahol for cleaning. I plan on buying an nes lot this week which includes a nes with a new 72pin and also a yobo. Guy says NES doesn't work though after the install. Not sure if the carts just need cleaning or what...

Yeah, it's probably a cart problem. People don't realize that even though you have a new connector, your carts are still dirty and need to be cleaned. Otherwise, you're just transferring all the dirt and junk that's accumulated over the years to the new connector. I'd bet good money that it's probably a cart problem, not a system problem since the NESes seem to live forever.

I've had to clean all my carts again after installing the new connector. That said, some of the replacement parts might be a bit flaky according to scuttlebutt.

I'll second the replacement connector. It's the thing to do. Just spend a few bucks and some time doing this, rather than wasting $100 on eBay for one of those hideous top-loading NES's.
