Have you done the 100 jumps with Mario? You get some special item or something if you can pull that off haha.
Booster's Tower is one of the best parts in the game to me. Not to mention I think you've recruited a certain person in your party that's awesome, something Nintendo alone probably never would have done.
I always struggled with the Yoshi race haha, but it's been years since I've played it now. The game is chalk full of weird mini games and stuff like that, for better or worse haha. I can't remember the mine cart thing.

Re: RPG Progress Report
For the Mario jump, my highest was 33. Don't know if I will ever get to 100, but I average in the mid 20s each time. Love that mechanic. And yes, I have, "You know who!" So happy about that!Xeogred wrote:Have you done the 100 jumps with Mario? You get some special item or something if you can pull that off haha.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Funny fact about Super Mario RPG, I played it so young and it was my first JRPG so I had NO idea what I was doing.
- Once I got the "See Ya" item (instantly run from any battle), I used it all the time for every single battle.
- I had no idea what leveling up was or stats, so HP being the bigger number I figured... well duh, just do that. So I only leveled up HP for everyone.
So I avoided the fundamentals of gaining experience/items from battles and only focused on one stat. I somehow still beat it.
I don't want to spoil much but there was a certain rangers boss battle later on that I think was the hardest for me as a kid. It's still one of the tougher battles in general but yeah, the reality is the game isn't too hard going back to it now haha. Still freaking love it though and beat it several times.

That is definitely my favorite part of the game Xeogred. But yeah, also the hardest fight.

It's fascinating that kind of gag group is even in the game. Just one of the hundred or so things that makes this game so much more special to me compared to the Mario & Luigi series. Admittedly I've only played one or two of those, but they are such a downgrade. I probably shouldn't compare them too much though, just totally different things. Mario RPG is a glorious one off that only could have happened in its time though.
And now I'm ticked at Nintendo again because of course Legend of the Seven Stars is on the Wii U and not the 3DS. WHY!? I have my Wii U hooked up and all but for once I'm loving a handheld again and wish I could get this game on there right now instead. Bah!

Re: RPG Progress Report
I would assume it's not on 3DS because it doesn't have the heft to emulate the SA1 chip.
Anyway, I think a couple of the Mario & Luigi entries compare favorably to SMRPG: Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story. That last one in particular was one of the absolute best games I played that year.

Mario RPG /was/ like, THE game that wouldn't run properly on Retrons for the longest while (I think they've fixed it now?) The architecture of that game just doesn't transfer easily, so I assume they just have to brute force it. If it takes the heft of the NEW models to even run SNES games, I have to imagine that the 3DS' just aren't powerful enough to push through that work-around they've figured out.Sarge wrote:I would assume it's not on 3DS because it doesn't have the heft to emulate the SA1 chip.

Indeed! They're not quite the same, but each takes the ideas of the previous one and evolves them into something new. They're a fantastic example of what spiritual successors should strive to bealienjesus wrote:Superstar saga and paper Mario blow super Mario rpg out of the water
