Agreed but I didn't like how the so called best ending was made for rote memorization speed runners. The last couple games did it by item completion, kind of like the whole SOTN map unlock percentage bit for the castle. I appreciated that far more as you can really dig into the corners of the game.

And 7 years on that temple boss, wow. But I could see that. Like the other comments, I tend to go a bit slower at times and yet I'll do the wrong thing and still kick the crap out of a boss that should be near impossible or a royal pain to do otherwise (my way.) Annoying as hell but also an accomplishment of its own seeing as a faq search would have corrected that stupid moment.

Don't like how they set up the best ending in a game? Google it.

Speaking of derping in games, I was stuck in Zelda II for years hunting for the hidden town. Everywhere else in the game, you can step on an tile and it will take you to the location, even if it's a hidden one. With the hidden town? Nope. You've got to use the hammer to "cut" the trees down, revealing the village. Of course, I'd lost my manual (last time I ever lent one out with a game), and did not remember that the hammer had that function. A trip to the bookstore that had Jeff Rovin's How to Win at Nintendo Games 4 solved that particular problem for me.

In my defense, NES games tended to be rather obtuse. Zelda II was downright obvious compared to other fare.

I'm stuck, can't seem to wrap my head around that beta or whatever it is spider walking metroid. Kicked my ass like 10x, once I ended up raging and tossing the handheld and the game popped out I called it a day. Before that got it down to around 30 metroid or 31 and a varia suit which was cool just before that prick showed up. Not sure if I'm missing e-tanks at this rate (still just have 2 notches) or it's my hands getting pained holding the system trying to move fast around that thing. I don't know what it is with DS style handhelds but it doesn't matter the model when you get something that uses L/R a lot my hands pay for it. Don't know if I need to go looking for more gear/e-tanks or whatever or if I'm just screwed on this one.

If you're talking about the metroid types that look like this:

What I do with those metroid types is once they take to the air
use the charged up freeze beam to freeze it, that makes it fall from the air. Once it hits the ground, start slamming missiles into its face. It will get up and start walking toward you, keep firing missiles into its face. When it gets too close, jump over it and run away. It will start flying around eventually again, so just freeze-missile rinse repeat until its dead. Pretty easy once you get used to it.

My 3DS XL used to hurt my hands until I got this:

That grip makes the 3DS XL extremely comfortable to hold.

They also make one for the New 3DS XL:

On topic... I made it to area 4 tonight. I've got 27 or so metroids left to kill. Just recently got the grappling hook. I would be farther now, but one night this week I spent beating Front Mission Alternative and another night was spent reading a book. But I'll play Samus Returns more tomorrow! Unfortunately I don't think I'll get to play the game Thursday, Friday, or Saturday due to real life stuff. Might not have this one beat until next week guys. :?

It's OK. You'll still beat it before I do. I am going to go for 100% completion; so, it will probably take me a while. (I just started last night.)

That grip might work if it gets the hands in a more SNES/PS Dual Shock type comfort of a hold to it. Holding the system I find my pinky tends to curve up under it to support it due to heavy L/R use and for the first time on the system I shut it off on myself holding the stupidly placed power button last night. I use the New 3DSXL so I'd need that second one you linked up. As it is now my hands hurt and the straining has me slip off the circle pad some too which is yet another problem.

My problem with that metroid was I didn't at the time know I could blast the face. Since I can not at all time a counter on those damn things I just evade and would missile the hell out of it in flight. On the ground I can evade the shockwave and the beam shot (usually does it on that raised bit) but the thing coming up, I can't seem to clear jumping it so that hurts. I just get ground down to death basically so it's not a quick kill.

Yes. That is exactly what it does. Gives you nice beefy grips on the bottom, making the 3DS considerably more comfortable to hold:

The bottom of the grip has a little kick out stand too, which is good for games like Kid Icarus Uprising or Star Fox 64 3D.

100% added about an hour and a half to my time, but that included several pickups I could have gotten during the initial progression. I'm really looking forward to six months from now when the speedrunners have routed out a good 100% route.
