Re: What are you playing?
I'm playing Etrian Odyssey IV. I previously tried the first Etrian Odyssey on the DS and didn't enjoy it but EOIV is so good. Currently just got to the third area (it's snowy). Really enjoying it.
Re: What are you playing?
started AM2R the other night. Is it just me or do the jumping mechanics feel just a little on the fast side? Samus feels twitchy.

Terranigma is such an odd game. It's the best of the Quintet "trilogy" and the one most like a traditional ARPG. Aesthetically, it's beyond brilliant. The OST slays and the graphical style is among the best I've ever seen in a video game ever. The combat rules, minus the useless magic system.Xeogred wrote:Terranigma rules! And I totally get that with the music and vibe too. It's a gorgeous game, but there's a sense of sorrow and strange nostalgia to it. A late gen SNES JRPG, arguably Quintet's last really good game, and just a really bizarre scenario with the role you play in the world's reconstruction. Nobody does weird quite like Quintet. The game really goes places and has one of the best SNES endings I've ever seen, it was pretty cinematic and emotional all things considered.yaktaur wrote:Then I saw SuperDerek's review of it and thought to give it a real go and I'm definitely all in. The combat in this game is so good, the music is super pretty and sort of sad too.
I wish the plot was a bit more cohesive. The pacing is great at the game's start, but things slow to a crawl halfway in. And the town-building aspect was total garbage.

Thanks Sarge.Sarge wrote:Welcome back, Exhuminator.
I'm trying to get used to the new forum design, but I think it's better overall. It's nice to be able to have an avatar that's compatible with modern resolutions.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Ewww.... Nobody wants a stinky old "ass avatar".

I pretty much agree. I think Terranigma is a technical marvel with masterful flare on the SNES and it's peaks are extremely epic, but it does spread itself too thin at times. I've only beaten it once and still think it'd be daunting to approach again, but it's always easy to jump right back into Act Raiser or Soul Blazer.
You guys know me and Illusion of Gaia though... I mean it looks charming and hitting stuff can be fun, but yeah probably never touching that crap ever again lmao. Way better options instead of this one. Quintet's worst.
In other news, I started up Mega Man X Command Mission last night and it seems completely okay... but. I just don't know. Sometimes you're like, do I want to play just an okay game right now? I was kind of gearing up for Yakuza 0 soon since a lot of Mega Man Legends (1 moreso) reminded me of Yakuza's style too, I might just jump to that. And seeing this polished Command Mission just makes me think come on... I would have rather had Legends 3. lol
Command Mission is basically by the book typical JRPG and not in an interesting way, other than taking place in the Mega Man X world. I hear it's only 15-20 hours long. Graphics/music seem top notch. But yeah, I'm just going to play more Sonic Mania right now.

Re: What are you playing?
I started Sudeki on the Microsoft XBOX this afternoon!
I'm kind of torn on the graphics. They look kind of good, but they also look like early 3D modeling and weird appearances. They look a little like ReBoot, but not weird colors.
However, it is nice to play a RPG on the XBOX. I've barely touched it, but the setting looks nice and I really like the combat. It's more of an American ARPG, but it feels good none the less. I was pleasantly surprised and I look forward for more.

Re: What are you playing?
Fully playing Ys Origin now. This is the Ys I miss. This kind of gameplay. The only downside is no map. It's not that hard to find your way but a lot of things look similar so at times I get a little lost. I like it but not as much as Oath.
Re: What are you playing?
Have you played either of the Legends games already? I got the JP version, Tron ni Kobun, technically gratis. I've been thinking that I should play it, and pass it forward to someone else, but I haven't played Legends.Exhuminator wrote:Tron Bonne is awesome, I love it. I almost beat this game back in ~2001 but never did. I'm correcting that error now.

Too true. That's a textbook case of a game that seems like it should be good, yet is anything but.Xeogred wrote:You guys know me and Illusion of Gaia though... I was fiddling around with that one a couple years ago, but was pretty immediately put off by it. I'm curious to read more of your thoughts, after you've spent a bit of time with it.Markies wrote:I started Sudeki on the Microsoft XBOX this afternoon!
