How are Play-N-Trade stores?

I've never been to one before but I'm going to be checking one out later today. Do they carry a good selection of older games? How are they price wise? I know these things vary on a store by store basis, but I thought I would ask anyways.

I'm also curious how Play-N'-Trade stores are as far as pricing, game selection even though I'm nowhere near close to one but still interested nonetheless...

It depends on the location, employees, etc. I've heard some people rave about them, some people think the prices suck, and so forth.

We have two around here, and while they're not mind-numbingly great, they are usually better than Gamestop. At least you can find games from before the last generation at Play N Trade, and the employees at our local stores are generally more informed than Gamestop employees. (Remember I said locally - I know we have a few Gamestop slaves over here on the forums .)

Also, the prices aren't outrageous around here; but that could be an issue of location. People here in Louisiana aren't the wealthiest in comparison to more heavily populated states, and the prices usually reflect that. (Ex. Yoshi's Island on GBA cost me $7.99 at Play N Trade, while it usually sells for a bit more on ebay.)

But until now, I've never really thought about what a lame-ass franchise name "Play N Trade" really is.

in my experience:

fairly knowledgeable & friendly employees
decent selection on systems that GS doesn't carry any more
eBay-level prices

Just visited my local store for first time. Just one employee and it was a small store but it was very neat and had two tv's with consoles hooked up for play (flatscreens) tons of gamecube systems in there at 50 each not sure if thats a deal or not. Maybe 50 or so old nes, snes, and genesis carts and a couple nes accessories. A genesis 2 and a psone and otherwise all new stuff (ps2-xbox onward) games were cart only and overpriced a bit probably. Not a bad store but my local pawn shops are better no matter how grubby they are

I was out at my parents in Mesa AZ and there was two Play n Trades, and neither had any retro games. Prices for used ps3 and xbox games we ok, cheaper than GameStop for most

I just went to a Play N Trade in Charlotte, NC because I was visiting some friends of mine that live there this weekend.

It was epic. Shining the Holy Arc in mint condition, Metal Slug for Saturn as well as a whole host of other import Saturn/PS1/PS2 games, several like-new Saturns, good pricing on the newer games... and a huge selection of really retro games. Atari 2600-7200 had their own section in the back.

This was a much better experience than my first Play N Trade visit, which happens to be the one closest to where I live. No retro games, no modern games save for a few sports titles, and they were charging $150 for a Saturn. No joke. All this Saturn came with was a SuperPad 8 (Bleh) and the 3-in-1 gamepack with Virtua Fighter,Virtua Cop and Daytona USa... ya know, the stuff you see EVERYWHERE.

After my first PnT, I was ready to write them off, but after visiting this second one, I gotta say they're about as consistent as a flea market.
