Golden Sun has a lot in common with Dragon Quest. The battle system is fun and snappy, and the summons are cool, although I tended to stick to keeping them attached for the class buffs. The whole class system is a lot of fun, mixing and matching Djinn to get weird combos that give some really cool classes. I also like the light puzzle solving along the way, too.
The verbosity might get to you, though. It didn't bother me.
Just... play with a Djinn guide so you don't miss any.

There are no permanently missable Djinn in Golden Sun 1 if I remember rightly. You'll want to get them all before playing the sequel if you want to get everything over the two games though.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I couldn't remember, honestly. Good to know they're not missable!
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
With stronger narrative i probably would enjoy the game lot more. Dragon Quest games are good comparsion in a sense that those too aren't (keep in mind that i have only played 4&6) really story driven games like Final Fantasy. It's hard for me to get into traditional JRPG when there's not good characters or a story to keep me interested. I don't really dislike the game but i'm pretty much continuing it just because it's too late to back down. I'm also under the impression that the sequel is better.

I think the comparison to Dragon Quest is very apt. It's a little bit DQ and a little bit Lufia II in its design philosophy. A game that's very good at being a fun game, but not that great at telling a gripping narrative.Sarge wrote:Golden Sun has a lot in common with Dragon Quest. I sarcastically mentioned to a friend that, to help her get into the proper Pokemon games (she really likes the mobile ones and wants to get into the main ones, but has trouble keeping them going once she starts) that she make Mass Effect-themed team on her next try (as she really likes that series. Now I think I'm just gonna do that when I go through Black 2, as I also really liked the original trilogy, and fun naming conventions do a lot to enhance the experience of Pokemon for me

I didn't give up on Golden Sun but i got Ever Oasis yesteday and i figured that i should stop the bad habit of buying newer games and then having them sit on a shelf for a year. I played the game about three and half hours and it did start really slow (it doesn't really start to open up until around 2 hours) but i'm starting to get into it now. It's basically Diablo/Zelda like action RPG with basic townbuilding elements. The game is pretty straightforward but i do still enjoy it. One thing though that i'm not fan of is the fact that the dungeons have room's and such that you cant reach unless you have the right character for the job. You can add two additional characters to you party and the characters have different skills that affect the enviorement. This leads to having to write on paper that dungeon X has this and this that you cant get unless you take character x with you. Things like this just annoy me and i hate that games still do have things like this. It's there to just waste your time.
EDIT: I totally forgot that you can actually teleport back to town and back to place you teleported from so if you have the right character at town then at least on those ocassion you can easily swap (still needless busywork)

Persona 5 is what I've been playing lately, and it's way too good so far. I'm really enjoying the story and characters, and the gameplay is so much better than P3P and P4. Just so much quicker, much less grindy (on Safe mode anyway) and the Palaces are tied together with the story instead of just being a place to go battle some baddies for a bit.
I'm glad I started this now and not while I'm in school, cause I'm probably going to be playing this for a while haha.

No, I didn't! I was a bit worried that the story would be good, but the gameplay would still be grindy and a drag like P3 and P4. So glad it's not like that at all (so far anyway ha).MrPopo wrote:Sounds like you never saw its awesomeness coming.
