And J Frost, I'm not trying to insult your market or country. I've got a couple friends in Brasil right now. They go down there all the time and really love it.
I guess I look at this new hardware like its not really designed for "us": the hardcore enthusiats. I think its for the millions (if not billions) of lower income people in these countries. Video games have always targeted North America, Japan, and Western Europe (I've heard Australia is still a bit neglected). These companies are probably seeing the potential of growth in these markets.

Re: Zeebo
Cronson, the problem is that the system is really expensive. It costs more than a modded PS2, and the games are going to be pricier as well. Since it is supposed to compete with the PS2, I doubt it'll have much impact.

The problem with that is that people cant walk into a normal retail store and buy a modded PS2. The would be able to buy a Zeebo.
I wont pretend to know the economic situation in these places, and if casual people will go buy games or if its just the more hardcore people. Obvisouly, if this is afforable, casuals would more likely purchase something like Zeebo over a modded system they would have to find online or a specialty shop.

Yeah, and I don't know Brasil prices. How much are PS2's going for down there? Are there lots of burnt games on the streets?
I do think $200 is a big investment to anyone living on a few hundred dollars a month.

Re: Zeebo
It's not difficult to find a modded PS2 at all. As I said, they're sold everywhere. People can buy them in any game store (it's like if you walked into a Gamestop and bought a modded PS2).superlarz wrote:jfrost wrote:Cronson, the problem is that the system is really expensive. Anyway, for the price they're asking, TecToy is probably going for the more hardcore people. But the hardcore are already well-served with cheaper PS2s.
Re: Zeebo
Yes, pirate games are sold very cheaply at every street corner. They are also sold on regular game stores and are a little more expensive (there they have a box and a printed DVD label). 360 and Wii burnt games are also sold in those stores (I'm guessing the only reason PS3 games are not is because blu-ray discs aren't very affordable yet).Cronson wrote:Yeah, and I don't know Brasil prices. PS2s go for about R$400 (180 dollars).
Re: Zeebo
I like its slick elegance, but unless the price drops and it can be modded I cant see me ever looking at it more than that video. Now if it can be modded and have some emulators on it, well I see that as being an awesome portable emulation box.

Re: Zeebo
The console and controllers have a very cheap look and feel, it's basically a cell phone, it even uses SIM cards, so emulators past NES or Genesis aren't much of a possibilityfast wrote:I like its slick elegance, but unless the price drops and it can be modded I cant see me ever looking at it more than that video.
