Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I really think it's time to stop referring to the consoles as a part of Xth generation as it only gets confusing nowadays with all of them overlapping more and more.

I agree. I also never understood what the point was. Especially with this forum where we recognize games of all ages and respect them based on the games they provide.Tiduas wrote:I really think it's time to stop referring to the consoles as a part of Xth generation as it only gets confusing nowadays with all of them overlapping more and more.
I just think we should all look at systems as a whole and see if they were a success or not in their own right by the quality of games on the platform and not who their competition was.

We as a species love to classify and categorize.BogusMeatFactory wrote:I agree. I also never understood what the point was. We do and we sometimes categorize things incorrectly or unnecessarily.Jmustang1968 wrote:We as a species love to classify and categorize.BogusMeatFactory wrote:I agree. How about, like the old days of 8bit - 64bit, we move to...
Teraflops?
The era of Xflops is now.

You're absolutely correct.Jmustang1968 wrote:We as a species love to classify and categorize.
7th gen and backwards fits rather nicely into generational categories, unless someone's choosing to be overtly pedantic about it. However this "8th gen" we currently are in is definitely a beast of its own, and we will probably have to find new ways to define eras of gaming from here on out.

This referencing something in particular, or just some very general comment that people make errors?BogusMeatFactory wrote:We do and we sometimes categorize things incorrectly or unnecessarily.Jmustang1968 wrote: We as a species love to classify and categorize.
Categorization is useful to compare like things or as markers and such, and they serve that purpose well.

Y'all are forgetting about computers.
Quick, what generation does the C64 belong to?

Why do you think we didn't write articles about those games?BoneSnapDeez wrote:Y'all are forgetting about computers.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I'd say the C64 was an NES contemporary, so it's firmly in the 3rd gen. Its period of success is squarely in that gen, although I think it launched a year earlier than GameFAQs lists the generational boundaries.
