I've got a Kabuto but I'm nowhere near the Kabutops, it's a 5km walk for candy if I remember right. I still don't have a Tauros but that's probably because I'm below the imaginary line that runs right through the middle of this area, but it means at least I'm in Heracross/Corsola territory. I just got really lucky with the Lapras, saw the shadow and then drove around trying to find it, one Ultra Ball later it was mine. But of course now that means just 3 candies and one power up. I'll probably never see one again unless it's in a 10km. It's a Dragonite killer!
I've been really disappointed with the last 2 events, mainly because I still haven't found the stuff I need. No Chanseys in the pink event, no Totodiles in the water event.

I'm just 5 pokemon away from finishing my gen 1 set now (besides the crappy region exclusives). 3 of them are just a matter of time with buddy candies, but I'd kill for that Chansey and Snorlax.

Let's face it the game has some serious problems and bugs when it comes to monster generation and other lock up and crash on start quirks that just suck they don't seem to care to address.

I don't recall where that heracross line is, but would southern california fall into that or further south?

I found a pokemon in an egg today that popped (5km) that I never heard of or even seen a shadow of before that looks relatively cool in design.

It looks like some badass gray kitty with pink tail and ear highlights called a Sneasel. CP 1041, has Feint Attack and Avalanche(new to me), 74HP, amazing-HP-wow. The arc is right off the tip of its camera right ear so maybe 66% of the way so it has growth potential but it won't be hitting 2000 by the looks of it and it doesn't evolve either it just stays a dark-ice beast.

It evolves in later pokémon generations, into the guy below, so if you like him at least he might get good later. You'll just probably have to wait until 2019 for them to release gen 4 to Pokémon go before you can get him

Interesting. I don't know much about gen2 at all let alone the later stuff. I had a limited experience with SoulSilver and played maybe 15% of Pokemon X before it got insanely boring due to the poor early structure of the single player game just dragging itself painfully out beween gym1 and 2 where I stopped.

The "Tauros Line" has been determined to be on the 29th Parallel (line of latitude) so southern California would be definitely above it.

Oh well, so much for that, I don't go any further south than that and don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've Tauros show up on the radar around here, Exed. If you're really desperate, I bet if you drove north for about 30-45 minutes you'd eventually find one.

That's funny you mention it, because when I was looking up where the line was, it seems to be just around where you are. Get up there and find me some Mystic gyms to turn over, right?

No, actually, I've got a ton of respect for your team. The few players I've met locally on team Blue are actually nice. I like to think we have some sort of unofficial truce where we leave our usual territories alone (about 90% of the time). It's INSTINCT I have a burning hate for now. They're the ones who always tear down our level 10 gyms more often than not. With all the items they have stockpiled being unable to hold gyms, I'm not surprised. They just took another one at the local Y last night, after I claimed the last spot. They're always going after us and Mystic too. There's 3-4 gyms in this area of the county that are always going back and forth between the three teams: The Y, the western branch of the county library, a church near that (but it's been ours for about a week now), and unfortunately the water tower on Valor Road. I've been attacking far more Instinct gyms in the past month. They're the underdogs, and there's only room for the classic Red vs. Blue battles.

I haven't seen any Instinct gyms in my immediate area for quite some time. Not even at the three gyms downtown, and those suckers change hands pretty frequently. The only one I've consistently seen is near a restaurant a ways out of town. It's been Instinct every time I've gone by. I think most members of the other teams feel sorry for them and leave it alone

In other news, I was out today and saw my first shiny Pokemon, a red Gyarados at the top of a Valor gym. I initially thought my phone was acting up. But no, it was definitely red. Makes me want to be lucky enough to find my own shiny Pokemon some day....

I've seen tons of those red Gyarados in gyms. My blue one is still doing great in the one I have it in, but I have 100 candies to power it up once it returns.

I got an evolution item away from the 7 day streak (Shiny Coat), so I was able to get a Scizor, with a terrible moveset and CP less than I thought (1600 > 1800).

Same with today's 7 day evolution streak item (Sun Stone), and I had a Gloom for the Bellossom, it went from 760 CP to around just 1200. I'm not too impressed with the CP gains on the evolution items.

But I did find Houndour today near one of our gyms and I finally evolved a Lanturn (with Thunder) and even at its CP around 1200 it gets 150HP! Nice.

Finally, lamenting that my 2nd Blastoise has Flash Cannon, later on I found one in the wild with Hydro Pump (1100CP "may not be great in battle") but it's always good for low level prestiging.
