What single player FPS campaign are you playing?

RTS, FPS, Sports, Adventure, etc.

Are they seriously rebooting CoD back to a WW2 setting? I mean that is some straight up Ouroboros shit right there.

The real kicker is that it will probably still use the same engine as CoD2's.

CoD's struggle over the last few years is amazing to watch.

What has supplanted it? Is it stuff like Overwatch?

I think it's a few factors:

- Annual releases get stale
- Hero shooters like Overwatch getting popular
- People realizing how dumb map packs are, especially with annually released series. All they are doing is locking out and splitting their own player bases. Finally we have games like Titanfall 2, Overwatch, etc, throwing in all additional content for free, shifting to a focus on cosmetic micro transactions to fill that void. And this model seems to be working.
- CoD's engine is a joke at this point. People were mixed on Black Op's 3, and the hardcore CoD fanbase from what I hear speculated on podcasts/etc never wanted the series to turn into something super sci-fi which is where it was going and finally jumped the shark.
- If you haven't played Infinite Warfare and or Titanfall 2, watch a multiplayer match of these two games back to back. It's embarrassing how boring IW looks in comparison to TF2.

So BF1 was a success for EA and it's just so damn hilarious to see CoD change its setting again like the flip of a dime. An obvious identity crisis.

20 CoD games later it was bound to happen no matter what. I don't even hate the series myself, I could talk up CoD4 for days, and Ghosts was the last one I played last year or something and had enough fun with the campaign. Infinite Warfare's campaign interests me a lot too. But this series will never be a priority for me and I could really careless if it disappeared overnight. I'm glad sci-fi didn't work out for them, so I don't have to see my favorite setting get milked and sour.

That being said, did Titanfall 2 sell any better? I can actually respect them for trying something different with Infinite, I do think they were trying to get the series out of a rut.

Unfortunately I don't know. It was on huge sales like the week after release. EA seems to be a huge fan of killing their own IP's and sending them out to die. Launching Titanfall 2 alongside Battlefield 1 and Infinite Warfare all within the span of a month or whatever it was is really baffling. TF2 thankfully picked up a lot of steam, because it IS one of the best FPS campaigns out there today and the multiplayer is incredible. But it's the underdog and probably got crushed, they've always seemed shy about numbers, but it sounds like it still might have a healthy player base.

Doom 4 and TF2 were some of my top picks of last year easily.

In other news, Quake Champions actually looks... amazing. I don't really feel like Overwatch is for me, never liked Team Fortress, or other games like these, but... maybe this will be the one. It just looks like 90's Quake/Unreal Tournament all over again.

I like how they are playing it up like it's a big thing they haven't done before.

hmm, I'm kind of surprised by the (seemingly?) negative outlook on this. I feel like even though I liked the futuristic stuff the series has done lately that I always got the impression that most people wished they'd go back to the roots of the series. (Like Wolfenstein, Doom successfully have as of late). And now they're doing that so I figured more people would be excited. At any rate - I will plan to play CODWWII.

I think this is pretty much the best possible thing that Call of Duty could do. Their present day stuff was okay, but their future stuff has left some to be desired (I think the writing and acting quality in their future set games has been the best of the series, but the gameplay and world design itself wasn't as good as it could be IMO).

That said, however, I wouldn't mind having a game set in a war less known to Western players - the Somali Civil War, the Yugoslav Wars, the First Indochina War, etc.
