Wow I haven't come across any of those yet. Are they the Shrine quests? I tried one, but it confused the hell out of me haha. I'm meaning to get back to trying one of those tonight.

Yep. I've done a few that required figuring out some puzzles or whatnot on the world map. The shrines are otherwise hidden until you do so which is awesome. So they're not all just simply there on the map.

Last night I found a not so hidden but test of will type for a pop up shrine. Had to stand on a hot plate and catch on fire for like a minute (kept eating food through it) to impress 3 gorons and a shrine appeared.

To that other point, various ones I've hit on the open spaces have the chest just before the mummified monk with the goodies inside, others not so much but never really all that hidden unless ALL shrines have them, then yeah I missed something. They're just nice gear or a rarer item but nothing vital.

Thinking more about last nights late post I realized I just barely missed walking into the Rito Village it appears in the north west-ish region of the map so I should go find that...and wherever Goron City is too. It would be nice to get those points opened up. Again I think I probably should get one of thsoe thick books as the lack of direction I am getting a bit bothered on with the finer points (hidden shrines/items less than obvious to locate.) as I'd like to power up more before messing with the dungeons. Also it would be helpful to know what I need to get more powered up fairy boosts on the gear before finding them so it's not more backtracking.

I need Moblin guts for some more Great Fairy upgrades.

Zelda noob question (haha even though I've played every Zelda game, except for the awful CDI games), but what do the Moblins look like again and where am I likely to find some easily?

They're like giant, incredibly stupid bokoblins with long snouts. I encountered a bunch of them in the forest and ruins just east of the plateau.

Do NOT confused them with the Lynels, the lion centaur guys. Those guys will fuck your shit up if you're not prepared.

There's a bunch of them just down the hill from the Tower near Hateno village. Big skinny red guys.

You can also find a good few of them on the boardwalks over the water just south of Lanayru tower.

This is also true in both The Legend of Zelda (NES) and A Link Between Worlds (3DS). Although I haven't encountered one in BOTW yet, I am glad to hear that it remains true there too.

They use to be pig guards and a common medium difficulty enemy:

Now they are taipers:

Go back to the first shrine outside of the starter area, there are 3 or 4 low level ones there.

Or go watch the cartoon:
