One argument I've seen is that the countries on the list cannot provide adequate vetting information. I know there was talk of potentially expanding the list, although that seems to be off the table for now.

Our vetting process for those particular nations is already fairly thorough. When taking in refugees, for example, we hand pick them and spend months investigating them. We have some of the most strict immigration rules in the world, some of the longest immigration delays, and incredibly thorough vetting processes. I don't think there is much more we can do at this point to improve that security. Trump's EO on this was a populist move designed to appeal to his base. It has no practical value as a security measure. It is merely security theater, much like a lot of what the TSA does in airports. It makes a certain group of Americans FEEL safer without actually improving material safety. But because the EO targets specific groups of people, that makes it problematic to me. We're effectively discriminating against specific people in a way that doesn't actually improve our national security. We should not sacrifice the needs of others, even non-Americans, just so we can get some warm-fuzzy feels.

Ack wrote:Hey guys, going forward we are gonna have a blanket rule: do not do multiple quotes to different topics in this thread, OK?

That doesn't mean you can't quote members who have quoted others, and you can't break up quotes to respond to individual questions. To keep conversation moving, that is fine. But do not post multiple quotes from disparate articles, topics, and ideas in one post. Break out your topics into separate posts. It makes it much easier for everyone else to follow and respond if they desire.
marurun wrote:When responding to another user you can multiple quote. It's just external sources. Like, if you want to talk about two different articles, instead of lumping them into one mammoth post where you quote from both articles but change topics half-way through, you just make one post for each article/topic.
I am asking this directly in this Thread so all can see. Thank you both for posting this. Agree, a compromise of keeping posts at a reasonable size vs censorship if Posts or Quotes are limited.

If I understand what is Quoted above by Ack and marurun, here is how I am reading this. Can there be more clarity on the questions below? Lines 1 and 2, I think are partially covered by the responses above. Once the Mods determine, perhaps an update to the Forum Rules so it can always be located? No need for an immediate detailed instruction here, that could be placed back in the Forum Rules if you want with a short reply in this Thread once completed?

1. Multiple Quotes from members related to one Topic is okay. If the quotes from different members have subjects unrelated to each other, add the second Quote in a separate second reply?

2. Answering an unrelated separate question (only if from a different member) should have a separate Reply to keep separate subject uniformity? However, if the unrelated questions are all from same member in their single post; then okay to spool out the questions into individual quotes in a return reply?

3. Outside multiple articles quoted if the same subject, are they allowed in one post? Or to keep posts condensed; only one article quote per post with the only exception below?

4. If quoting an article is related to responding to member's quotes for clarity, may both the member quotes and the quoted article be included as long as sticking to the same immediate subject per post?

Why don't you look at how other people post and try and mimic that style. You'll notice no one posts like you do.

CRT, you often include images that do not inform your posts in any way (they mostly just take up space and draw attention). You unnecessarily use bold text and change font sizes. You essentially format your posts so that they draw attention to themselves and stand out from the rest. That kind of attention-seeking behavior is problematic in this thread. And so much more of your posts are quoted content or the words of others and a lot less of your own thoughts. You'll notice that when I have a long post, the largest portion of those long posts are my own words and thoughts. I tend to keep quotes short and to the point. I don't include random images from the articles.

Your posts need to be more discussion and less advertising and attention-getting.

An interesting thought I just had: Perhaps making people "feel" safe can also have positive effects outside of national security. I suspect that if people feel the system is working properly, they're more likely to trust folks from other nations, since they went through "stricter" security measures. Dunno.

There are posts that simply place derogatory photo shopped images of the President as well as posts with one liner attacks and no meat of discussion. Yet since on the same side of the fence, no call outs in public. Really, everyone has their style and yes I do put more effort in my posts. Anyone is welcome to do the same; how much thought and in depth of a Reply to add to the discussion. You call it attention getting, I call it adding clarity to my reply.

The quotes with included links are honest instead of plagiarizing into your own words, but do agree a limitation vs censorship needs to be set. One thing that should never be done is to censor a post in any way (unless against the rules) just because you do not like the content. That stated, agree a question of size of post vs the censor issue, this is why I ask for a standard clarity for Quotes for all in the Forum rules.

How about this. We don't post insane left wing nut job news posts and you don't do the same for the right side?

Unless you are willing to sacrifice a few IQ points, I strongly recommend that no one watch those videos, BTW. I still marvel at the aggressive ignorance on display in the "Big Joe" video.
