Ok. So I'm building mine up..finally, than moving on too ps2 stuff...but for now I'm actually seriously diving into the PS1 library..today I bought Tomba and Vagrant Stories for 40 bucks and a bunch of old movies and cd's...I'm mainly focusing on the rarer things, and mostly RPG's and Platformers.
Here's what I own:
Final Fantasy VII (borrowed, but I'm not returning til I'm completely done.)
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX
Metal Gear Solid
Threads of Fate
Tomba!
Tomba!2
Vagrant Stories
Worms Armageddon
What's on my list:
Arc the Lad Collection
Breath of Fire III
Breath of Fire IV
Brigandine: The Legend of Forsena
Chrono Cross
Crash Bandicoot
Crash Bandicoot 2
Crash Bandicoot 3
Crash Team Racing
Darkstone
Dragon Warrior VII
Final Fantasy Anthology
Final Fantasy Chronicles
Final Fantasy Origins
Final Fantasy Tactics
Grandia
Herc’s Adventure
Legend of Dragoon
Legend of Mana
Lunar Silver Star Story Complete
Lunar 2 Eternal Blue Complete
Persona
Persona 2
Resident Evil
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
SaGa Frontier
SaGa Frontier 2
Suikoden
Suikoden II
Spyro
Spyro 2
Spyro 3
Tales of Destiny
Thousand Arms
Vanguard Bandits
Valkyrie Profile
Wild Arms
Wild Arms 2
Xenogears
Did I miss anything? and I know this is an expensive list...but I've seen a lot of these around at various flea markets and such for much cheaper than there online price...but a few I'm going to have to get online.
Oh also..which of these are actually worth the hefty price tag..like I've been reading lots of "top PS1 game lists" and made my list from there..have I listed any that aren't worth the 40+ dollars? I don't want a game just because it's rare I want to enjoy it...and for that reason I may be getting rid of threads.
Building My Playstation Collection
Re: Building My Playstation Collection
You said you wanted to focus mainly on RPGs and platformers? I'm not so good on the second topic, but I can name a few in the first you might have overlooked. As far as rarity is concerned, these will vary, but if you really want RPGs...well, check these out.
Azure Dreams
Beyond the Beyond
Brave Fencer Musashi
Front Mission 3
Harvest Moon: Back to Nature
Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth
Jade Cocoon
Kartia
Koudelka
Legend of Legaia
Monster Rancher
Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen
Parasite Eve
Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure
Saiyuki: Journey West
Star Ocean: The Second Story
Tactics Ogre
Also, since you're grabbing Resident Evil, I'd say go ahead and look up Silent Hill. There are other horror titles on the console, though I won't go into them unless you want me to.

Brave Fencer Musashi was my favorite game as a child..I forgot about that one, ha..I'm currently 17 and job less..so I prolly need to get one of those before I start getting serious.

Re: Building My Playstation Collection
In my personal opinion, I wouldn't spend over $100 on a game like Suikoden 2. I own the game and love the game, but there is no way I'd pay the current market price for it. It really comes down to whether or not collecting video games is important to you.
If you do decide that you want to go forward and build a great collection of PS games, I have a couple games that weren't included in your list but are completely enjoyable. Check these games out (in addition to the games that Ack listed):
Alundra
Hoshigami
Vandal Hearts
Vandal Hearts 2
Tales of Destiny 2
Games like Shadow Madness and Guardian's Crusade can also be acquired for very cheap compared to a lot of the games on your list, and they are solid games despite some flaws in each of them.
When I start collecting stuff, I always start small and see if it's still something I'm interested in after a little time has passed. For about $100 you can get a bunch of titles on your list instead of just a single copy of Suikoden 2.

Re: Building My Playstation Collection
Wow after reading your list, you brought me back down memory lane. You are making me feel old, even though I just turned 24. When I got back into video games, when I was little I got a PSX for Christmas. My friends at the time were big RPG fans, so we all would buy games and share them I have played almost all of those on your list. The ones definitely on the list and ones you mentioned should definitely be picked up.
Final Fantasy 7 - I know your borrowing it, but that's one of the greatest rpgs hands down, also the first one I ever played.
Final Fanatasy Tactics - A very good game, that still hasn't had another game really take it's title of being on of the greatest strategy based rpgs.
Brave Fencer Musashi - Another brilliant game, that a lot of people never seemed to get into.
Xenogears - God only knows how many times I played this one over and over. The fact that you have a split battle system is great.
Breath Of Fire III - A stunning game, this game consumed a good part of my youth as well.
Wild Arms - Seemed a little easy, but a fun play regardless
Suikoden Series - I played them all, and Suikoden 1 was actually the first RPG I ever beat.

But what are the Playstation must-haves which aren't RPGs and haven't been remade on later consoles?

Re: Building My Playstation Collection
Suikoden 2 is a better game than the first. However, if you really don't care for the first one, I'm pretty sure you're not going to love the second one. When it comes to spending around close to three figures on a game, you better be damned sure you're going to love it. Honestly I'd put expensive games like this towards the bottom of the list, and focus on getting good games that come at a much cheaper price. It's a lot easier to justify blowing a ton of money for a game, if it's one of the last ones you need to complete a set.CDink wrote:Yeah, i agree..i have the first Suikoden on PSN and It's kinda meh to me at the moment..but idk if i can find it reasonable..I'm almost certain this guy at the flea market was selling it for 80.
I wish you the best of luck with your collection though. The RPG section of the PSX is a tough endeavor, because it ranks only behind the PS2 in regards to the amount of titles available. At least the PS2 doesn't have a lot of titles that cost a load of money though. DDS2 is probably the most expensive PS2 title, and that runs around $50. The PS has Suikoden 2 at over $100, Persona at over $80, Valkyrie Profile and Tactics Ogre around $80 and probably around 7 or 8 of the titles on your list that are going for around $50.

See that's where I need help..prioritizing my list..I forgot to add MGS:VR missions..that shouldn't be too bad though....so basically I just need some help in what I should buy now, and what I should hold off on for awhile.......I'm pretty sure my ps2 list is about twice as long...not too mention if i decide to get other consoles.

I'd personally start with both of the Wild Arms games. They are great games in a great setting, and you can pick up both of them for a total price of around $40 complete. Factoring in price and quality, I think those deliver the most bang for the buck.
Since you want to get the Crash series, that wouldn't be a bad thing to try to acquire early also. The first one might cost you $20, but I've seen the rest of the games all under $10. I just saw Crash 2 for $5 over the weekend.
