Pure 80's gold...
Also finished Spartacus: Blood and Sand tonight. Last episode was epic, made the whole show worth watching.
So what have you guys been watching lately?

Good God, could you imagine if you had to control a 3D-ish game like that? Infuriating!Exhuminator wrote:Pure 80's gold...

I just finished up Hannibal last night. I really enjoyed it despite the divergences from book cannon (not necessarily a bad thing).
Pity there probably won't be another season, but at least they weren't asshats and didn't leave everything on a cliffhanger.
Now I have to find something else to watch. I'm thinking American Horror Story....

I watched the first two seasons of Hannibal, and the first episode of the third. The first season was decent. The show really fell apart in season two, plot holes galore, it was like the writers winged every episode. The first episode of the third (final) season was so bad, I just couldn't take anymore.
And yes, I've read all Thomas Harris' original books.

Somewhat of a sidetrack there, but what do you think of Silence of the Lambs and Ridley Scott's Hannibal?
For me, it was a terrible idea watching them back to back. Silence of the Lambs was pure gold. Grounded, slow, surreal, and haunting. And then... WTF was Ridley Scott doing with Hannibal? It felt like a full on comedy to me, couldn't believe how bad it was. Gary Oldman's character was legit hilarious and I couldn't take it seriously at all. Anthony Hopkins was great again but still a bit too over the top. Man it was beyond bad.

Any thoughts on Hannibal Rising? I kind of like it at least better then Hannibal. Silence of the Lambs is still top dog for sure though.
Would probably rank them.
Silence of the Lambs
Hannibal Rising
Red Dragon
Hannibal
Edit: Almost forgot about Red Dragon and found something surprising when I checked out it's wiki. Didn't realize there was an earlier film adaption of it Manhunter (1986) . Looks pretty horrible though

I'd say...
Silence of the Lambs
Red Dragon
Hannibal Rising
Hannibal
Silence of the Lambs is one of the best book-to-film transitions I've ever seen.

Unlike some Best Picture winners, Silence of the Lambs deserves all it's accolades. One of the few instances where an excellent book was transitioned into an equally excellent movie. Red Dragon also had a pretty decent adaptation the second go-round.
And then there's Hannibal.....Really, the only saving grace of that film was Scott's decision to change the ending.
