Re: Switch Discussion Thread
well, after keeping up with this thread I think I've convinced myself what my next handheld will be.

Dude, you're always buying yourself some kind of high-end device, then trying to run retro games on it, and then selling it off three months later.
You've already bought and sold the shield portable, shield tablet and the shield TV. Plus there was the whole experiment of attaching a controller to a tablet. The Switch seems like the next logical step for you.
I'm just giving you a hard time, noise. I like you, dude.

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
I certainly do have an affinity for new devices. There's no denying that. But this GPD Win is really appealing to me. For about the same price as The Switch, it's a 3DS-sized Windows 10 device. It would play - not stream - the hundreds of games I already own.
Re: Switch Discussion Thread
Skyrim isn't the PS3/360 version. It's the new remaster that was on PS4, XB1 and PC.
Don't get me wrong, graphically it doesn't match those versions, but it's still the 'remaster' graphical style.

Own: Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast, Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, PS Vita, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Wii U, Game Boy Advance, DS, 3DS, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox, Xbox 360
Re: Switch Discussion Thread
It's a little low on RAM. And a lot of indie games that "should" run on it might not because they aren't programmed very tightly and have massively inflated system requirements. I also worry about the ability of Intel's low-power video chips to handle much 3D of note.noiseredux wrote:I certainly do have an affinity for new devices. There's no denying that. I've read some reviews/watched some videos now. At low settings you can get Skryim at a solid 30FPS. And to be honest, I'd prob play a lot more 2D stuff on it than 3D.marurun wrote:It's a little low on RAM. Anyway, but some stuff from my FS list and I'll let you know first hand how it handles any game you're curious about.

The remaster is essentially the same engine though. It has some more detailed assets by default, which may not all wind up being there (not a lot of point in keeping the high res textures if it'll be 720p, for instance), though some (like increased foliage) have been shown.Reprise wrote:Skyrim isn't the PS3/360 version. Still, it's an enhanced version of a game that came out in 2011 and could scale down to run on consoles from 2006.
Re: Switch Discussion Thread
As far as any ports or remasters go I'm okay with some (not too) inferior versions on the Switch because it can go portable to make up for it in some cases. I noticed this when comparing prices on Puyo Tetris PS4 to Switch and PS4 was $10 cheaper, I was confused, then was like why and then like snap it travels. Lol
I did pre order the neon version and all is justified, since I gave up on the nes mini doing VC instead, will be road tripping/ relocating come June, and now that I got a house of gamer gals sooner or later I'll cough up for a spare unit or two for local play... Scrabble Switch Family Nights
Now that I'm on, looking into new software of course is always exciting Mario, Bomberman and No More Heroes will payoff for it alone. Also Nintendo should see that maybe some ports and remasters could benefit from some local play bonuses ala GameCube days I think was the thing for them since slacking with online.

Same thing with the side by sides I've been seeing of Dragon Quest Heroes. Yes the angles say in hallway arches and stuff are notably more angular due to less triangles to use, but the coloring, lighting effects, and other fluff are on the nose.Reprise wrote:Skyrim isn't the PS3/360 version. I'm not under any belief this is a console, it's a handheld they're being stupid calling a console, an Android flavor handheld no less, Shield+ in the end with a Nintendo label stamped on it. That's what I expect and why I'm coming into liking the thing and not being turned off. All I'm saying is that what you get on Shield console, and what you see of games that overlap even from the PS4/One (standard) series boxes the potential is there to do fine justice. It's not a big gap or a big pain so awful to code for with crippling parts (like WiiU) to run people off.
I still believe the system has the potential for some level of a third party renaissance of sorts, much like how quite a few developer ran off with the N64 came back for much of the Gamecube's life until about it's last year and a half. It got a good many solid games the Wii and definitely the WiiU did not get. Perhaps developers too see it much like the successor to the handheld line so they're willing to shovel more at it too. I just at this rate don't see it being a dry well, or at least not bone dry like the WiiU was for 4 of 5 years pretty much. In the end you know I have a high quality parts gaming computer, so a box like this in tandem all the best non-exclusives can be played still. No loss, no foul.
Re: Switch Discussion Thread
Do we know that Android is driving this thing and not a custom OS? Arm chips have a lot of OS options.
