Nintendo's different controller design with each console really interests me, whats the idea behind it?

Sony and Microsoft proved that controller design has no affect on sales or adoption, if anything it proved its better to stick to the same design. There was a time when a "new console-new controller" made a lot of excitement but it was because there was a lot to improve on.

You mean you don't want to play Super Monkey Ball while rocking around on a Wii Balance Board?

An attempt to elicit innovation in game designs for their platform due to esoteric control input. Furthermore encouraging said games to be exclusives due to said unique control interface.

They were right about one thing: these bad boys pretty much encapsulate every controller they've done. Drop-in Wii replacement, NES, the works.

I'd argue they've done nothing new with the controller other than the enhance past features. The gamer backlash from the Wii gave us that pro pad, and then the WiiU around the tablet screen was basically a stock modern controller like the other guys have.

Yet again as a 1P solution, it's just that once more on this device. But thanks to the L/R buttons they smuggled onto each of the 2 joy cons, you effectively have a SNES controller with 1 analog stick on it. I think they got things pretty good one way or the other, and with the other (snes style plus) you have a very decently laid out 2 player device right out of the box. Won't work so hot for your dual stick type needs as it lacks that, but that aside, it's solidly laid out.

I have to admit, I really want a crack at Ultra Super Street Fighter II HD and Bomberman, and for all I dump on the style of it I won't lie Zelda still looks interesting. And if we're talking about thin releases into summer or so at worst, plenty of time to absorb a beast that size, probably the only good time to.

If it has a strong launch and those sections environment partners deliver on their tools, we will see more summer titles spring up. Most will probably be ports, but it will help fill out the schedule.

I think enhancing what they have is the right way to go, honestly. There's still a lot of untapped potential there.

I'm also feeling conflicted. On the one hand the games announced rock. On the other hand the console is 50€ too expensive, there seem to be way too few games for it right now, and I was badly burned by the Wii U. I will wait and see with this one

EDIT

After thinking about it a bit more I realized that what I really don't like about the console is that it's a home console with secondary handheld capabilities, while I would have liked it the other way around. And to be honest it doesn't make any sense that they are not coming out with any games that feel designed for a handheld, since this used to be their strength to begin with.

I really hope that I will be proven wrong but I believe this is the end of Nintendo as a console manufacturer
