If the race had been Kasich vs. Clinton and Kasich one I think most people on the left would have been disappointed but not doomsaying.

I don't agree with Kasich, but I don't have any major gripes with him. I can at least respect him; he's civil, and relatively moderate for the modern GOP.MrPopo wrote:If the race had been Kasich vs. Clinton and Kasich one I think most people on the left would have been disappointed but not doomsaying.

Thanks. I endeavor to educate and inform, not berate or insult. I hope that's how it came across.Sarge wrote:Well-written post, Elkin. Appreciate that very much.

I stopped posting in here, but I will this time say you did just that Elkin. I knew that stuff having almost double majored in history myself, but ended up with political science instead. There's nothing wrong in any word in that post, it's educational 100% with no slant.
I do agree though despite how it was framed, if the electors really did pull the QB sneak of sorts and put in Kasich (who said he doesn't want it days ago) or Clinton I think you'd see large scale riots of some sort. The mob will be infuriated and out for blood, especially as others who will laugh over that twist will rub their noses in it as brazenly as possible.

Been reading a lot of articles lately how on-line trolls are going after folks who criticize Trump. This really disturbs me. I don't recall anything like this in recent history. Why are there so many emboldened crazies out there willing to harass for Trump? I do not understand. This is GamerGate for politics, and it sucks. I worry about the future of free speech and open discourse in this nation.
An on the topic of free speech and open discourse... This article from WaPo (opinion piece) basically argues that there is a kind of "political correctness" on the right, which the author terms "patriotic correctness". I doubt it will change any opinions, but those who go in with an open mind may find cause for reflection, if nothing else.

I think the point where the noble intentions of PC really fell off the wagon was when they coined the term "microaggression". I don't care how apt it is at describing some real phenomenon, it makes you sound like a total douche.

I think Jesus said it best when he said "Don't be a dick," or something along those lines. Something to that effect.MrPopo wrote:I think the point where the noble intentions of PC really fell off the wagon was when they coined the term "microaggression". Yeah...Terms like "micro-aggression" drive me up a wall. That said, I have found that people who are aggressively "anti-PC" (or "straight talkers" who "just say it like it is") are inconsiderate boors making thin excuses for their obnoxious behavior.
Re: So the whole world is kind of falling apart...
I agree with that, too. It goes up there with the statement, "That's just how I am." It's an excuse to not have tact or grace. They know their behavior is problematic, but don't want to put any effort into changing, so the justification is that it's somehow an intrinsic part of their character. They've turned what should be a negative into a "positive", with no effort!
Boy, if life were that easy.
Speaking of trolling, I see it all over the place, left-wing, right-wing, wing-a-ling dragon, whatever. It annoys me when anyone does it, but it especially annoys me when "my side" does it.
