Yeah but this election has been a big, "my candidate didn't win? I'll just jump parties that'll show them!". You have the republicans that jumped ship when trump was nominated and vice versa from what i recall of the matter.

But truth be told, the Republicans didn't jump ship. The ones who didn't want Trump instead focused their energy into congressional elections. The Koch brothers and Paul Ryan are perfect examples of this, and the result appears to be Republican control of both houses of Congress.darsparx wrote:Yeah but this election has been a big, "my candidate didn't win? The Dems rested on their laurels and thought they were invincible. Now they're getting a kick in the ass that will hopefully turn them into a party that pays attention to the people, and hopefully it does the same to the right.
Imagine having two reasonable candidates to choose from in future elections?
That's the only positive I can think of here.

Totally agree. Paul Ryan and the Koch Brothers may have saved the Republican Party or, at the least, have something to build a new one on.Ack wrote:But truth be told, the Republicans didn't jump ship. I'm going to say that we should have expected this when the Cubs won.

That's what I'm hoping for....but from my perspective watching the google results and being a NC resident, republicans have won everything on my side. From president, down to house/senate and even governor since it looks like Pat's in again. That seems rather impossible to happen but yet here we are...

I read this on FiveThirtyEight and it made complete sense. They thought they had it in the bag. And, to be honest, who could have blamed them if you watched just one debateJrecee wrote:The Dems rested on their laurels and thought they were invincible. They decided to take a victory lap and it bit them in the behind.

Throwing around the Koch Bros? I'll raise you one corrupt greek known as Soros with even deeper tentacles.
Seriously though, it's weird, and I'm watching the roll out and how the hell did Trump inch a few thousand votes up in PA and MI? Hold it, probably not...but damn it's been a weird one.
I think I saw somewhere it was 1928 when a Republican last walked into office holding both halves of congress as well. That's nearly Cubs territory since they were brought up.
He won't lose AZ I just don't see it, but they won't call it yet. NH is a flip flop, but he does need that. Unless by some act of weirdness MI or PA falls to Trump. If one of those 2 do it's over and by a margin. (edit) Crap forgot about Alaska, does that one ever go left? Thats +3. If you put that with Arizona that's +14 placing him at 268 by the fox news desk totals (and if you use the live tracker on real clear politics website then its 269 (1 away) which means a tie and the house will give it to Trump game over. Perhaps none of this waiting is all that necessary as long as Alaska and Arizona pull it out. 269-269 (+1 for house vote, ...winner.)
Mind you it's the Clinton machine, I would be totally assuming they'd pull an army of lawyers into either state to demand a recount and more and more stomping their feet about it much like Gore did until the Supreme Court shut it down weeks later. I really hope that does not happen as that's just awful.

To be fair with regards to the 2000 Florida recount, the whole thing ended up coming down to a few hundred votes.

Re: So the whole world is kind of falling apart...
Well looking at PA, MI and NH it could be that slim again in one of those which would be tragic if it ended up in the courts once more. That's the only reason I said it. He's ahead, but you could stand a spit in the direction away from him and jump the margin it's that close.
