Who else gets made fun of for being a video game geek?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

At work I have miniature Halo vehicles, an original Nintendo Poster, a NES controller mint tin along with a red and green Mario mushroom holder. All of this is on my desk. To top it off, my screen savor is of a Pac Man game in action. People love stopping by my desk to see what news and I get asked for opinions on new games all the time.

Had I have not put any of that stuff on my desk; I probably would not have become friends with the guy in my parts department. He's the same age as me and is a massive game geek as well. He's the one who gave me my arcade unit as well as a ton of other stuff.

The more you show it off, the better you may relate to someone. If not, screw em.
and i bought an atari jaguar off that guy... so thanks for meeting him!

I'll do the exact opposite and write out games in my will. It can be part of the heritage.

Whoever gets the Dreamcast will know that they were the favorite.

i think people have come to friend me as opposed to picking on me simply because, i know a lot about games, so people like to quiz me and just pick at my brain, but also like using me when they have questions on what to buy or when they get stuck in a game, i'm not the geekiest looking guy who wears a mega man shirt, but most people look past it and tend to enjoy my knowledge and nerdery

What the fuck? Don't be a selfish prick. Just because you're worm food, doesn't mean the games have to rot along side you.

Ass.

But anyway, at some point in high school, I decided it was pointless to hide my geekdom. The turning point was probably when I wore a Goku shirt to school. That pretty much sealed my fate as nerd loser. I probably wouldn't have been so brave if I were smaller or thinner. Girls especially would taunt me for my nerdery. Unfortunately only one of them wound up dead the next year, murdered by an ex and thrown to rot in the trunk of a car. I would have enjoyed a few more of those news stories. :?

And at age 24 now, I just can't be fucked to hide it. I'm loud about it anymore. 98% of the time it just repells incompatible people, but I've actually met a couple very cool guys in the last month.

I'm collect games, comics, manga, anime, figures, old VHS movies, novels, art books... yeah, I collect pretty much everything that people could look down upon, but I rarely get any flak for it. I know back in the day, I was very socially awkward, but now a days, I'm pretty "hip", and "fly", and "radical". (That's what the kids say these days, right?)

Basically, I just don't bring it up unless it happens to come up, and then I keep it as brief as I can. I do have a few t-shirts that are related to gaming, manga and comics, but I rarely wear them.

I have a reputation around the office as being just a little insane. Everyone around me is some kind of geek, but few are as into video games as I am. Most of them have a Wii, and we get in some good late night Mario Kart sessions, but when it comes to the older stuff most are not too interested. For them, games are like snowboarding or any other hobby that you do once in a while.

However, I am the authority on pretty much everything gaming related. People come up to me all the time for advice on what games to get.

Going off of that, I'd say that my addiction to video games, hardcore punk and (more passively) graphic novels (I'm also very much into plain textual literature, but that's much more normal, socially) has never been a negative influence on my popularity, it's just been seen as a quirk. Plus, alot of people kinda respect it because I can sit and give well thought out reasons why they're each highly effective artistic mediums. I would probably seek out the shirts and whatnot if it weren't for this bullshit in my school system called Standard School Attire (SSA) which is basically a very, very, very strict dress code. I find the notion of that being allowed in a public school system disgusting, personally. Anyway, I made a Sega t-shirt myself once. I should make more. I wouldn't be ashamed of wearing it... I'd just do a t-shirt of something that generally looks awesome, like Jet Grind Radio or Space Harrier or something.
