I'm pretty hyped for this. The average buyer will no idea what a shield tablet is and this will be a brand new concept to most.
They'll capture both markets as we've discused before. Was that Skyrim playing in trailer? Making an effort to show AAA third party support.
What is you guys' guess at price point?
Let's not forget nintendo historically makes money on their hardware.
I'm at $425...

Someone better call up Cave, Treasure, MOSS, and Capcom to let them know about the goldmine that awaits.alienjesus wrote:Random thought I just had - with the screen of this this being able to be seperated from the controllers, it make for a coolay to play vertical shmups -just seperate off the controllers, rotate the screen and voila , portrait scren ready to bullet hell.
Re: NX Predictions Thread
Right, in the context of garnering substantial third party support for home console games, it doesn't seem to be ideal. Seen as a portable first, it has little in the way of competition. Yet. I would guess that nVidia will push out a new Shield tablet later in 2017 that'll outclass it and wind up with ports of third party games.Tanooki wrote: I dont see a problem here unless someone wants a console port box, this isnt a console though. Its a mobile device with a TV dock for 1080 and higher if those leaked further specsout an hour ago are fairly right. What you have here is likely the next step of the nvidia shield tablet and console. One would expect to see more than what the current beefiest shield console can pump out with the titles specfically coded for it can do that blows out the rest like Metal Grea Revengeance, DOOM 3 BFG Edition, etc. which look fairly PS3 quality which is why I tossed that out there. I think its the opposite it will be very easyto retool games much how the shield gets them now, same Tegra guts give another platform to peddle your goods on. Definitely it blows out hte Vita and the 3DS which this in due shorter time will replace as they head into a single system support company. 3DS is the end of them having 2 tiers of primary gaming hardware.
Re: NX Predictions Thread
Last I heard Shield 2 comes out next year, so this would launch first, and then the Shield 2 after. Anything the Shield 1 existing and Shield 2 gets this should get aswell from that line up of developers. I hadnt tinkered in the shield site in awhile but on my PS3 like potency comment you should take a peek at DOOM3, Half Life 2 and its added episodes, Never Alone, Borderlands 2, MGS Revengeance and the others on the list as it can put out some real quality when the games arent hindered being run on lesser hardware devices. It just gives some idea of where this probably isgoing with Nintendo is all with that Tegra partnership.
Re: NX Predictions Thread
One would have to assume by the NVidia verbiage that it's not built on stock Android, so gaming performance should be significantly better than what you typically see on those systems. Hopefully, anyway.
Re: NX Predictions Thread
From what I've seen, actual performance of those games really varies. DOOM3 runs extremely well compared to the 7th gen consoles, but others like MGS or RE5 run poorly relative to their 360 ports. Overall though, I think it's a matter of motivation to put the time in optimizing (and simply experience doing so). Offering 5-10+ year old games on a small slice of Android devices probably doesn't do that. A solid Switch install base would though.Tanooki wrote:Last I heard Shield 2 comes out next year, so this would launch first, and then the Shield 2 after. Re: NX Predictions Thread
Yes I know it is about the core laziness of the developer to shovel or optimize as DOOM vs MGS shows, but either way the potential is there and this is the older tegra setup using android with overhead where heres youre looking at a sleek nintendos setup without the baggage and variance for so many types of hardware so I think youd see a better all around package.
5-10 year old or not games, in the end youll have new and youll have Nintendo so it should be unless it is just destined to fail due to all the horrid media treatment of Nintendo for the last couple generations developing a hate base, it should do fine. Nothing is a certainty but this is no Wii anything with gimmicks and stupidity involved, this looks very long planned, crafted and well designed to do the best for once not to bomb clinging to a dying model.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
Seems like a good implementation of a good concept to me. Just having the good idea of a hybrid isn't enough, it needs to work smoothly. From the trailer it seems like it will.
Someone said up in the thread they are glad the name went away from Wii sounding names. They didn't! It is "hidden in plain sight" right in the middle sWItch.
Probably even sounds more obvious when they say it in Japanese.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
Pumped. Are they releasing U games for it or some online shop stuff? Assuming there's no disc tray for backward comparability. Couldn't tell.Reprise wrote:OMG LOOKS SO GOD DAMN AWESOME!!!
WANT, NAY, NEED THIS.
Easy to predict that the Switch is going to have a monster library. It's still the affordable option for smaller dev teams so they're probably going to get ALL that stuff you would get on the 3DS and Vita, and now Nintendo themselves are only going to have to worry about ONE system. This is gonna be epic.
Unless I don't get a Switch Metroid. I'll be pissed.

I'll probably do the same thing but I'll own them both someday.Ziggy587 wrote:jmbarnes101 wrote:Why would you only buy it for one system? I have Twilight Princess for three different systems so I imagine I'll buy both.Come to think of it, I own Twilight Princess on three systems as well.
I'm not going to be purchasing both releases for $60 each. Maybe one day, if for some reason it's worth it, I'd buy the other version used. But at launch, it'll have to be one version or the other. I'll have to wait to hear if there's any crucial version differences before I decide which to get.
