I just watched the trailer...
I think this looks awesome. The only thing that puts me off is the lack of a D-Pad on the "switch" controller. But I get it, you can break the controller apart and use it as TWO controllers while portable. I saw a couple of glimpses of a "Pro" style controller, which has a D-Pad, so I guess there's that at least.
Is the screen not touch screen? Being that one of the "switch" combinations looks very close to a Wii U Gamepad, I was hoping for backward compatibility with the U, but I can't tell if there's two shoulder buttons on each side or not. If it's not a touch screen though, then yeah, forget about it. It doesn't look like this thing will have a disc drive, but that doesn't rule out the possibility of playing U games digitally or (though probably not likely knowing Nintendo) a USB Wii U drive adapter.
Whatever that Mario game is that the girl was playing... I can't wait to see more of whatever that game is!
I held off on pre-ordering Breath of the Wild for the U. So it looks like it WILL be a U/Switch dual platform release like everyone was speculating (or was that already known to be fact?). I'll have to wait until AFTER the Switch launches before I can decided which version to get, in case there's pros and cons like Twilight.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
Why would you only buy it for one system? I have Twilight Princess for three different systems so I imagine I'll buy both.

I'm not going to be purchasing both releases for $60 each. Maybe one day, if for some reason it's worth it, I'd buy the other version used. But at launch, it'll have to be one version or the other. I'll have to wait to hear if there's any crucial version differences before I decide which to get.
Re: NX Predictions Thread
Eh, end results aside, the hardware still winds up being very different than what others are using outside of (essentially) the mobile space. Significantly less (and much slower) RAM, different architecture, etc. With regard to third party support, it's largely not looking to be an inherently better position than the Wii U is in, at least for home use. Not that the hardware isn't capable enough, but it seems like 8th gen ports will take a lot of effort, with the end result needing to get cut down anyway.Tanooki wrote: Lets hope that it is right enough as this would put them in a very powerful space onto their ownwhere they can pull talent projects and games from multiple directions quite easily. Think of those only on shield tablet console games that big game makers do I can use but others without can not they look almost PS3 quality in nature when made for Tegra...and if this is generation 2 of that set it will be even better off. I dont see people griping over it looking dated other than tools who have their heads up 4Ks ass and that just grasping at straws.
On the other hand, it blows the 3DS (and Vita) away spec-wise, and seems poised to basically take over the portable market. Kinda like Nintendo decided to make the Vita successor that Sony seems uninterested in bothering with.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
I've got it pre-ordered for Wii U, and I'll be pre-ordering for Switch, too. I'll probably change my view over the next couple weeks. I was EXTREMELY opposed to the idea of a handheld/console hybrid at first, but the idea has really grown on me, and I'm extremely excited about the prospect now. I suspect my general attitude towards the Switch will follow a similar adjustment period.jmbarnes101 wrote:Why would you only buy it for one system? The price is what I really need to know before I decide how hype I'm getting. I'm going to guess a $299.99 or $349.99 price point (my money is on the former). I'd be okay paying up to $400, but Nintendo doesn't have the power in the market that it once did that would allow for a price that high. I think they need to have a price at or below $300.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
I'm hoping for a $250 - $300 range. A couple of packages for this might make sense, if you don't want the dock, etc.
I'm slightly bummed as I wanted to jump in on the PS4 market, and I'm not about to drop tons of cash on both a PS4 and a Nintendo Switch. I'm still crossing my fingers for a nice Black Friday deal. I'm curious if Microsoft and PS4 will muscle some deals in to combat the Nintendo news. If that's the case, then could be a time to jump in on that PS4 goodness.

One of the views shows that there are two shoulder buttons on each controller like the Wii U's setup.Ziggy587 wrote:Is the screen not touch screen? Re: NX Predictions Thread
I dont see a problem here unless someone wants a console port box, this isnt a console though. Its a mobile device with a TV dock for 1080 and higher if those leaked further specsout an hour ago are fairly right. What you have here is likely the next step of the nvidia shield tablet and console. One would expect to see more than what the current beefiest shield console can pump out with the titles specfically coded for it can do that blows out the rest like Metal Grea Revengeance, DOOM 3 BFG Edition, etc. which look fairly PS3 quality which is why I tossed that out there. I think its the opposite it will be very easyto retool games much how the shield gets them now, same Tegra guts give another platform to peddle your goods on. Definitely it blows out hte Vita and the 3DS which this in due shorter time will replace as they head into a single system support company. 3DS is the end of them having 2 tiers of primary gaming hardware.isiolia wrote: Eh, end results aside, the hardware still winds up being very different than what others are using outside of (essentially) the mobile space. If you all view the stills online now the system does use cards, it does have a pair of L and R buttons on top, its mimicing the WiiU control wise which plays into their Joy bridge thing or the full pro controller you see too. Its a smart design but I quite wonder how fragile it may be compared to previous systems. It isnt as thick as the WiiU screen controller, and een more than that IT is the console, not just a touchy communication device.
If I decide I want one of these, I have my birthday that month it comes out, maybe I can get mom to make it my gift instead of just a check in the mail.
Re: NX Predictions Thread
Out of curiosity, what's the battery life on a Nvidia Shield? 4 hours? I bet if they can fine tune a lot of its settings, you could push it to maybe 5-6 hours hey? I think that's the thing that will impede its performance as a handheld. If that battery life is reasonable, 3rd party support is carried through, I think Nintendo likely have a commercial hit on their hands.
