I will give them that.

Nintendo has a very loyal fanbase, and I feel like there are a lot of things they could do "if they were brilliant" that would just instantly drop loads (more) $ into their pockets. But they don't usually do those things. I often find it fascinating that such a long-standing and successful company makes the decisions that they make.

@Jim: It's been like 30 mins since it was even announced. Still early to see what the general consensus is.
Obviously but initial impressions have been very positive.

You're weirded out that a 127-year-old Japanese corporation makes extremely conservative decisions?

All video game systems have dumb names. The Play Station. The X Box. It isn't the wii so I am happy with the Switch. So is it the NS now?

At this point, I think it'd be a pretty simple thing to include, but anything designed for it would wind up either limiting the user's options, or need alternatives. If docked, the screen isn't even accessible. The Pro Controller has no touchpad like the DS4 (or the Ouya controller).

Feels like something that would be criticized either way...but given Nintendo's history, I'd kind of suspect they just didn't incorporate it (plus, it gives something for a revised model to add).

I do suspect it'll be accessorized out the wazoo though. The Joy-Cons seem designed to have custom controller halves for games as a potential, nevermind what a full sleeve/case for the console might be able to integrate.

Yeah it appears to just be a dedicated system for the first time since the Cube. I think the price probably will be 300-350 on it. You have two major contributors to that. The big screen, the Tegra all encompassing CPU and GPU chip, and then just the detachable design and all it encompasses between it and the dock w/TV parts to it. All that adds up just like the dodgy WiiU tablet pad did, except in this case its not divided over two devices now as the other is mainly a cheap dock with TV outs and a memory card reader is far cheaper than an optical drive mechanism too.

The name is fine...

Super NES: It's what the Nintendo Entertainment System was, only a SUPER version of it. This console has gone down in history as one of the best ever, but have you ever stopped to think about how lame the name actually is?

Nintendo 64: The 64-bit Nintendo system. Simple, effective.

Nintendo GameCube: A cube that you use to play games. Simple, effective.

Wii: As in "we". Yeah...

WiiU: The worst name Nintendo ever gave a console, save for the "New 3DS" and "2DS" being just as bad from a marketing perspective.

Nintendo Switch: Describes the console just as well as Super, 64, Gamecube, or Wii did for those consoles. Simple, effective. Sounds fine to me.

Yeah, I think $199 is a real lowball...but it's what the Shield K1's MSRP is at these days, so not impossible to hit for a Tegra device with a screen around that size. With all the accessories and all though, pretty unlikely.

What I suspect is that we'll see multiple SKUs for it, probably targeting particular uses. A barebones "portable" SKU could probably get away with just the core unit, Joy-Cons, and an AC adapter of some kind. I could see that being in the $200-300 range, with a premium bundle that includes the TV and Joy-Con docks for another $100 or so.

Hm, supposed dev kit specs via https://twitter.com/NWPlayer123:

Does spec a touchscreen. Not sure if hardware would suit a lot of cross-platform stuff from those third parties (though maybe reduced split with video memory if the Switch version is targeting the 720p?).

The fact that the NVidia page says "custom" makes me think it's not a stock K1/X1/whatever. Will be interested to see what this puppy can do.

Due to the known out there and what Ive kind of said Im almost inclined to believe those specs, in part at least. Sure while docked you can touch it, but if it is going more tablet like on the go then it makes sense for it to behave like an nvidia tablet. If this leak is right then yes that does explain why Nvidia said what they did and didn't too.

Lets hope that it is right enough as this would put them in a very powerful space onto their ownwhere they can pull talent projects and games from multiple directions quite easily. Think of those only on shield tablet console games that big game makers do I can use but others without can not they look almost PS3 quality in nature when made for Tegra...and if this is generation 2 of that set it will be even better off. I dont see people griping over it looking dated other than tools who have their heads up 4Ks ass and that just grasping at straws.
