Re: NX Predictions Thread
This is simply fantastic in my opinion. Looks cartridge and/or disc based. I'm hoping that it's all based on cartridges, personally. There's numerous possibilities, if they can get the developer support from it. I can only imagine the Pokémon possibilities. Love the idea of taking Zelda along with me. This will be a commercial success in Japan certainly.
I'm with JM also, that the controllers feel tiny for multiplayer, hopefully there's a way to adapt it. The battery live will also be challenging, but i hope there's some easy plug-in solutions also.
I think this combines both of Nintendo's worlds (handheld and console) and makes plenty sense. I will day one adopt this, if they have the developer support.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
I feel the same way from the design stand point as its like the failed Tommo lawsuit murdered Neo Geo X. Its a handheld device that docks to do HDMI on the big screen, small game card format, made for one or more players.
I do have questions yet I dont know ...did they abandon touch being the big one. The video screams standardized controls.
How about the weight and depth of it,could it be dropped or in anger twisted 1-2 degrees and pop its done or is it built like a brick?
How big are your game cards? If like Android will most games fall into the 1-2GB size but others up to 4GB or more depending on need? They solved showing what it does on a high level gaming standpoint with yourself and others all around, but that is all so they need a big press follow up with some basic info and tech data on it, or a weekly or biweekly run off of more video and press showing what is being done.
As I said theye been working on games for this for well over a year now, but how many THEY are there, Nintendo plus 1 or plus a dozen.

Photos of the Hardware:
I had a shower thought, of if Nintendo was brilliant, they'd make their library streamable on a service like Netflix. Charge a couple different packages (monthly/yearly), and put out all of the catalog for all systems. Probably would never happen, but could be cool on something like this.
I'm hoping the build is rock solid as well, so that there are no durability concerns.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
Other then Elkin I haven't seen much for negative comments anywhere. This thing appears to be garnering positive press already. The third party support list is very good with Skyrim on the video plus Konami, Capcom, EA, Square Enix, Activision, Ubisoft (I'm thinking those Beyond Good & Evil Switch exclusive rumors are true now), and others. I'm waiting on price obviously but I did notice it only has 32 GB of internal memory to hold downloadable games. That could be a problem.

Their press release does seem to make a point to highlight third party support (copying here since their site is barely loading atm):Tanooki wrote:I think youre dead wrong, but whatever. The video makes the case of what they have been making and holding back on until now. That is all it needed to do, for now. What needs to be done is some hard campaigning over the next 5 months showing a solid line of games from all parties involved not just Nintendo. If they fail to do this theyre screwed.
Still, there's a lack of real specifics. Fancy marketing videos aside, it's not really presenting a use case that Android or iOS devices haven't been able to do for years now. Maybe adding the support, accessories, and expectations of spending $60 a game...
Hard to really say without specs and pricing information though.
It's cart based from what I see. Shown at around 53 seconds in. There's no real space for a disc drive in the tablet part. I could see putting one in a docking station maybe.Blu wrote:Looks cartridge and/or disc based. I'm hoping that it's all based on cartridges, personally.

This is everything I'd hoped for. I'll be buying on day one.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
Nintendo has a very loyal fanbase, and I feel like there are a lot of things they could do "if they were brilliant" that would just instantly drop loads (more) $ into their pockets. But they don't usually do those things. I often find it fascinating that such a long-standing and successful company makes the decisions that they make.Blu wrote:if Nintendo was brilliant, they'd make their library streamable on a service like Netflix. @Jim: It's been like 30 mins since it was even announced. Still early to see what the general consensus is.
Re: NX Predictions Thread
I came home and went directly to youtube to avoid spoilers from facebook. At first the name sounds... meh... but it kinda grows on you. I must say that the trailer is perfect at showing what it does and how it works... also that switch sound is satisfying as hell for some reason. Another good move is showing not only their IP's running on the console but also big 3rd parties to show the general audience that you can get the cool nintendo stuff and the "hardcore" stuff as well. Also a youtube trailer may sound like a bad idea but the media and gaming sites will do the rest, nintendo will just let them do the work of hyping people for them.
As i was writing this polygon released a list of companies supporting the console:
