I didn't realize Killing Floor 2 was still early access. I've got the first Killing Floor and fire it up whenever I need some mindless zombie killing stress relief.

What's wrong with early access? Why is it "gross?" Halp.

I don't know about those two, but I know with ARK, early access meant that it was a fucking unoptimized mess that ran at 15 fps even though your GPU is well above the recommended specs. Haven't messed with it since the "official" release, though.

for me I've just never much liked the idea of playing an "unfinished" game. Although with many current games the finished games are no different than Early Access, with new shit getting added later. Is Minecraft ever going to be finished? Heroes Of The Storm? Etc.

KF2 is one of those games that takes everything great about its predecessor and improves upon it. I thought KF1 was excellent. But KF2 is amazing.

Ah okay. Gotcha. I found some Early Access stuff that looks cool but I'll likely just wait until the games are finished.

Killing Floor 2's early access stuff has effectively been a beta, just with more perks and things being steadily implemented and tweaked for the launch next month. Some of the perks have changed drastically in the time they've been out, and further rebalancing is expected. Heck, when it first started, only 4 of the 10 total perks were actually available to play, and one of the proposed perks has since been dropped and replaced by the upcoming Survivalist perk.

That said, Firebug is still my baby.

The prospect of content continually being added for years can also be part of the appeal though, if not the core of the game. MMOs, for instance, thrive on constantly adjusting and adding content. For games like that, which may wind up taking years of active play and patches to really become their best...putting that Early Access label on is appropriate.

As a "we need to make money now" kind of thing, perhaps less so.

oh yeah, I totally agree. Stuff like MMO's or... basically everything Blizzard makes now, these are kind of living, breathing games that are constantly getting major content changes. I think I'm just sort of now becoming okay with that. Which is why it hadn't even occurred to me that HOTDS and KF2 were even still in Early Access. There are certainly Early Access games that are truly truly "unfinished" experiences. But things like this are just basically betas in my book. And things like MMO's are a whole other thing. Then you've got your episodic games as well. I guess in a lot of ways "release dates" are become more ambiguous with the rise of digital distribution. Like I mentioned Minecraft: the game has been "out" for years. But technically it's never actually left beta has it?

Or stuff like Payday 2, which keeps adding more and more DLCs which have steadily changed and reshaped the game significantly.
