NES Classic
Re: NES Classic
I'm not going to bother with modding, I don't do arcade emulation really anyway on the computer. I'd just like it for the Neo Geo sets I have on here is all and a few classic games that play better with a joystick over a gamepad or keys+mouse. Anything serious I do, I'd do it on my neo geo cabinet. That's why I was curious about the basic stock arcade quality like setup like the Wii controller/Madkatz there seems to be.
Re: NES Classic
Agree, the Tatsunko Stick and also a Blaze Twin Shock I own with similar layout inside; both are just fine out of the box.Tanooki wrote:I'm not going to bother with modding, --- That's why I was curious about the basic stock arcade quality like setup like the Wii controller/Madkatz there seems to be.
I do not get time and time again seeing posts to automatically recommend upgrade of a retail Arcade Stick (already has micro switches) to commercial Arcade parts. Try the existing setup first before stating it is no good and needs the commercial parts.

Re: NES Classic
So this thing comes out friday! Who's picking one up? I plan to, as long as my local game store has some left when I go on lunch break friday.
Re: NES Classic
I was in a store and had the NES Classic Controller in my hands. Still sealed in the small box confirming the controller is small just like the original NES gamepad. Sadly, I could not buy it today, even the controllers are locked to Friday release date.

Re: NES Classic
serious question for those of you who are excited about this thing but also own a Wii U: Would you be happier if instead of this new stand-alone device, Nintendo had released a Wii U disc with all these games on it, and a compatible NES controller for the Wii U?
Re: NES Classic
Million times yes...some of the games on it I might never own but if on a disc or digital bundle/whatever I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Heck it would've been better off announcing it for all three systems, in a nes style case. These plug and play systems are just bizarre to me when they have the ability to put them on their existing systems and they play that way. One of the few moments when I question nintendo's thinking...

Oh definitely a disc that is compatible with both the Wii and WiiU. The disc has the advantage over Virtual Console as always available decades later and not just locked to the console you purchased the game download to.noiseredux wrote:serious question for those of you who are excited about this thing but also own a Wii U: Would you be happier if instead of this new stand-alone device, Nintendo had released a Wii U disc with all these games on it, and a compatible NES controller for the Wii U?
Looking forward to pick up two of the gamepads on Friday for my Wii. I was so close to buying the controllers this morning having held the retail boxes that are locked to Friday! I already have a Modded NES Gamepad, but at ten bucks, good to have two dedicated spares. The short cord for me idea since they will be plugged into the wireless Wiimote.
I prefer a SNES Classic controller which only saw a Club Nintendo Japan release.

Re: NES Classic
I'd be much happier to get a wii u compilation disc. I'd easily drop sixty on a disc like that. It would have been cheaper for nintendo to go that route as well, but it also would reach a smaller audience.
Re: NES Classic
I don't have a Wii U, but I do have ROMs and emulators for all these games and I could buy a NES USB joystick. Honestly, part of the fun is that it is a palm sized NES. Plus, the video posted earlier has me convinced that this will be a high quality release. So yeah, it's kind of a whole package deal.noiseredux wrote:serious question for those of you who are excited about this thing but also own a Wii U: Would you be happier if instead of this new stand-alone device, Nintendo had released a Wii U disc with all these games on it, and a compatible NES controller for the Wii U?

Re: NES Classic
Well, from what I've seen, this device has demonstrated better emulation than the Wii U's Virtual Console. So, there's some room to improve over what was offered on that. While I suspect that this is indicative of what the Switch will be doing (it is based on an ARM SoC), there's still the question of what kind of account system Nintendo may have going forward. Their past ones have been lacking.noiseredux wrote:serious question for those of you who are excited about this thing but also own a Wii U: Would you be happier if instead of this new stand-alone device, Nintendo had released a Wii U disc with all these games on it, and a compatible NES controller for the Wii U?
Generally though, I'd rather it be a physical release. I'd rather see Nintendo make a point to curate the best of their previous systems and offer them as a series of archive releases. Probably for the Switch though, not the Wii U. As much of a novelty as the little mini NES is...it tells you nothing about which games are on it, making any potential sequel an inherent pain to use without additional reference.
It's priced at the cost of a game, but doesn't need a system. Much better as an impulse buy.darsparx wrote:These plug and play systems are just bizarre to me when they have the ability to put them on their existing systems and they play that way.
