World is Falling Apart Thread (Locked forever)
Re: So the whole world is kind of falling apart...
I turned on the TV, saw Trump with the Clinton rape accusers, and decided to watch football.

Funnily enough things seem to have calmed down around here, probably because you can only mantain outrage for so long before it gets tiring. That or I stopped hanging out with the otherwise very nice people that considered conservatives, socialists, liberals and a huge chunk of the communists to all be "fascist"

I don't talk about it because I will scream and scare my daughter. I will talk about it one day why.

There are a lot of folks on here who will mostly agree with what I think. There are a lot of folks on here who will wonder how on earth I can honestly think what I think. Nobody is going to be convinced at this point in the run up to the election.

Donald Trump said about beautiful women: "I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just kiss. I don't even wait. And when you're a star they let you do it. You can do anything ... Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything."
When this was brought up in the presidential debate, Trump brushed it off as being just "locker room talk," to which former NFL player Chris Kluwe had a pretty fantastic response:

Basically American voter psyche boils down to, A being the good guy and B the bad guy, depending on allegiances and susceptibility to media messaging. There is no way in fuck you can convince me the Clintons are in any shape or form "good", and Trump is repulsive but his hands are clean of blood (so far). It's always been like this. "Better" democracies rarely fare any better however; they usually give you an extra choice or two, with heads of government essentially acting as presidents.

So, tax evasion on millions of dollars, refusal to release his financial records, rape (yes, you can rape your wife), and bigotry, racism, misogyny, and bullying are clean hands?Pulsar_t wrote:Basically American voter psyche boils down to, A being the good guy and B the bad guy, depending on allegiances and susceptibility to media messaging. Okay then.
If Trump weren't rich, he would be in prison. The only reason he isn't is because he could pay his way out of a rape charge, and get around the tax evasion which I'm still stumped on. The dude isn't even a good citizen. That's not an endorsement of Clinton...but, carting out the sins of her husband as some sort of character assassination is a weak tactic. Her own dirt? Sure, she is far from ideal.
This is the worst election I have witnessed in my life. Honestly, I'm embarrassed to be represented by either of them as an American. What's worse is the state of the country right now, and how desperately we need a real leader who will encourage positive change. Get ready for more riots, more random mass shootings, more terrorist attacks, unemployment to go up, wages to stay stale, all of it....neither of them will make a damn bit of difference.
I love America, and I am a patriotic kind of person. The sad truth is that our country is going downhill and there aren't any influential leaders like we have had in the past that really meant to change things for the better. As long as everyone has an iPhone and stupid social media, not enough people care to make any real change either, so perhaps our poor candidates are indicative of who we are becoming as people. That's the most worrisome thought of all.
I don't care if our President is Republican or Democrat, I'll settle for someone that actually gives a shit about "Making America Great Again" rather than using it for a stupid campaign slogan. It's a media shit show.

That's more "entertainment industry" talk, sadly. Apparently quite common in Hollywood. It most certainly is disgusting, but I also find the hand-wringing more than just a little bit disingenuous from certain quarters. Guess it's too much to ask for any consistency during an election.
I've said it way too many times, but this election absolutely sucks. Both candidates are awful. It's just a question of which one will do less damage. I've already come to a conclusion there, but it certainly doesn't mean I'm happy about it.

Is this in response to my post? It isn't really clear.Sarge wrote:That's more "entertainment industry" talk, sadly. Apparently quite common in Hollywood. If so, which part do you consider "entertainment industry" talk? Which parts seem disingenuous?
