Re: Pokémon Go

Post by marurun »

Been getting a bit bored with Pokemon Go lately. Haven't had much reason to travel or time to explore, and I'm perpetually pokeball starved. I feel like I'm being pushed up against a grindstone when I'd much rather be interacting in a more relaxed fashion. And interacting with fewer pidgys, rattatas, and weedles.

Nice to hear about the gym she has there Tanooki, making good coins everyday just like my Flareon continues to do in that far off gym, in for long over a week now. I think I'll never see it back again at this rate, it's still Level 6. Gastly does indeed turn into Haunter and mine is pretty nice.

My latest 10km egg hatched and it was just a Scyther that was not nearly as good as the other 2 I had. I now have 8 new 5 km eggs from Pokéstops and once I can do another set of mass incubations (read=spend coins), that will be a ton of XP once doubled.

I'm also continuing to do well with the Plus. My catch rate wasn't all that good today but it was more for a test of seeing how it deals with passing Pokéstops. It turns out that they can sometimes be delayed depending on how your in-game character passed them, I was in front of one where the app usually displays it and it took about 15 seconds for the device to react, and other times, it took less than 5 seconds once I passed one. It has been going off on every single stop I've come across and even though I would have probably been out of range on a few in my app, I still get all the items from the device. You can also press the button in the app if you're at a stop and it still gets the items! The big test will see if the 5 minute claim is true, that it notifies you if you stay at a stop and if you don't have to keep checking the phone, because that will be awesome and save me tons of time. At least now I no longer have to dump extra Pokéballs from my inventory because the Plus uses them. It works great in the car too, pressing a button is far easier than keeping the app on.

The best thing about the Plus is all the distance you get. It tracks it far better than the app ever hopes to. Even walking around the house gets you a ton! I've got enough Pikachu candies to evolve it, so I switched my buddy to Sandshrew (3km per candy) and I'll switch them out as needed.

No gym updates today because Mystic has been hard at work building up gyms I usually hang out at. The flagpole gym has been level 5 for the past 24 hours with a current prestige of 14063. I figure I'll take this time to fill up my potion stock and come back when I get more, in the meantime I'll get at least 10 coins/500 dust everyday with the Flareon I'll never see again

A good resupply day. Flareon is still in a far off land, but I battled/added in 4 more gyms today! (According to Pokestumble, one may be falling as I speak.)

This gym will add nicely to my coins.

Thanks to the Pokémon Go Plus and its awesome distance tracking, as well as its throw and forget technology, I was able to gather up plenty of commons for another evolution spree! I did 23 in 15 minutes with the Lucky Egg, including 3 new ones!

Seems like my Victreebell picture is missing. Raichu has optimal moveset, Rapidash doesn't have Fire Blast but I'll make it work. Victreebell has Acid/Leaf Blade, about as bad as you can get, after 100 candies. Ugh.

So that got me quite a bit of XP, enough for a new level!

One more to go for Max Potions and some free paid items!

Am I alone in this or is the buddy candy thing broken? It seems to rarely pick up my walks or the slow (20mph and under) car/bike rides too. I'm kind of getting angry because while the eggs tick off the candies aren't keeping up pace with it.

Today would have been a light play, a bore really, but I saw a jaw dropper of a shadow and doing what I never do, I turned the car and looked, wrong way first, right way the second. The shadow was there, and then it was pop, second house passed the corner.

HP85, Water/Flying Powerup dust 1300
Attacks are Bite and Twister :(

It's CP812 with 60% of the arc filled. It's decent, attack is strongest, blown away by stats WOW, and it's Gyrados!

Screw magikarp for never showing up, only cost me like 7-8 ultra balls as he was one big red aggressive prick but he gave in after that and 2 berries. Figured I'd end up with the shittiest power attack. Like Snorlax I have a bad feeling I'll never see one of those in the wild again, or at least not for months or more.

I'm going for a walk downtown tomorrow to re-stock and hopefully find another Dratini. The area I focus on is right next to a lake, so it's also a good spot for Magikarp, Slowpoke and Psyduck. Hopefully I'll get lucky and pick up a couple more 'mon for candy purposes.

The distance tracking CAN be a little fussy, but I hear if you take more straight lines instead of turning around a lot it might work better due to the nature of GPS measurement. But this isn't a problem with Pokémon Go Plus. I switched from Pikachu (1km) to Sandshrew (3km) to Weepinbell (3km) to Ivysaur (3km, current) and I'm getting candy from walks, driving, whatever. I got a new 10km that's in the default infinite incubator right now, and 8 5km eggs that will have to wait till I can get a few more.

Back up... a wild GYARADOS? This is new to me! Although yeah, Twister isn't the best charge move for one but maybe the stats will make it a good attacker.

You people and your Dratinis make it seem so easy. I saw the shadow of one, I can confirm they exist! Of course the same could be said about someone who hasn't seen a Magikarp yet got a Gyarados the easy way albeit with a bad move. That means I'll skip the evolution process and get a 60% Dragonite with Steel Wing/Dragon Pulse right? I couldn't really complain about that because Dragonites seem to get better moves overall.

Dratini grr...1 egg, bunch of candy, 1 evolve, never seen or had a shot at one since. And yeah I've only ever bagged 2 karp, at least the 1st was the max possible quality for one from what I've seen about. I'll still keep it maybe I can best that gyrados someday.

As far as he walks, I dunno it seems to cheat the candy stepper, but not the one for the incubator which gets me. I think it's disreputable bullshit they use GPS to get distance and not run it like a pedometer for steps. Once winter rolls around a lot of people in places aren't going to be able to generate a damn thing yet if you had a treadmill you'd be good and still getting the exercise they're trying to encourage under all this.

That's going to be a real test as to the longevity of the game in many spots, when the winter does come around. I've seen discussions on it but there's not gonna be a lot of activity in the northern areas, maybe Niantic will roll out something that's super special to try and alleviate the fact that many people won't be able to "Go" as they have been right now.

This morning's re-supply session went well with the Plus. 8 potions, 2 super, 2 hyper, more balls (over 300 but I cut some down) but my Revives are still at 30 thanks to the 10 I got from Level 24 yesterday. I even caught a 39 CP Diglett.

Yeah I have no idea what to do but go to the boring ass indoor mall and just walk passed the same unamusing crap for 30-60min. Up side is like a dozen pokestops, so you never run out, but it also never spawns anything but the super common stuff too so it's a trade off of supply and no demand unless you're pidgey farming.

They best figure it out, damn they're in Japan, that place freezes a few months a year, so they'll get screwed too. They need to move the tracker to a pedometer base so people can use treadmills. Just set it up so it won't pick up rapid shaking like if somoene does some jerkoff motion or throws it in a paint shaker to get distance. GPS is bullshit, you could go 10mi on a treadmill and get 0 distance.

If it makes the two of you feel any better, I didn't see any today (though I did catch two last week.) There were, however, several Magikarp, 2 Slowpoke and a Psyduck, so now I have enough candy to evolve the later two. Poor Magikarp will have to wait. I'm only a little over 1/4th of the way through with that one.

I did have a nice stock-up day, though. As soon as I got there, I threw a Pokemon in an empty Gym, then headed over to the nearby church Gym, where I proceeded to pummel the three Instinct players who were defending it. Then I picked up my defender bonus for the day and went on to do my 'loop' along the edge of the lake.

Due to the nice weather this morning, there were quite a few people out today on the trail. Only ran into one other Go player, though. He was doing the same thing I was, making a loop around the park and the stops to catch and stock up. The only difference was he was moving a lot slower since he was pushing his son around in a stroller.

Anyway, I'm all stocked up now. One of my defenders has already been sent back to me, but the other is apparently still alive and kicking in the other Gym. Probably won't last much longer due to the high-traffic area, but we'll see.

Oh, and I reached level 23 today. So yay me :)
