BoneSnapDeez wrote:Well finally got on PSN today. Now I may finally get into the Suikoden series. Like Shantae, I can't justify spending money on the physical games. Well, at least this applies to the second one. Especially when I can get 'em digitally for so cheap.

Also downloaded some Android stuff. I am turning into digital man.
This sounds so weird for the guy who constantly plays Ys and harps on gen 2(I'd love to get into that if the games weren't beyond what I can muster...I already die a crap ton in 8bit I don't want to add in another level of archaity despite I love the look of 8bit games and want to play more XD).

But seriously though, I think I just love the torture though when playing 8bit games. I love the look of them but really really suck at them :-\

If you want suggestions you know I'm overflowing with suggestions.

I'm pretty okay with digital games insofar as I can play them offline, and especially if I can archive them for future offline retrieval. If they meet that criteria we can be friends and they can have my monetary support.

Against my better judgement I purchased The Tomorrow Children on PS4 :P. I've played around 2 hours now and about 30 minutes of it have been literally sitting in a cage  . Nothing like a 5+ minute naughty time cage everytime a stray bit of buck shot hits the town when you are trying to defend it. Also doesn't help that trolls can report you for crimes for no reason to the NPC police who are more then happy to throw you in a cell for another 5 minute term, and god forbid you accidentally activate the escape QTE which seems to be pointless since as soon as you are out the cops instantly throw you right back in. If you want you can spend purchasable in game currency to bribe the cops though .

I cringe whenever someone new here gets mega pro-digital.

... except, I've been meaning to ask, is basically every 3DS game available digitally? I think in the case of handhelds I'd vastly prefer that. Heck I might even magically start to value a handheld more if I can download a bunch of games on it and just have it all right there. But for the time being I just want all the Zelda's and Super Mario 3D Land. The 2DS price is tempting but I think I'll just get an XL.

It's low priority though. But I will play those games someday.

Not only is every game digital, but some are ONLY digital.

I go digital when it "makes sense." Like today, I downloaded Adventures of Mana (only available digitally) and Sarara's Little Shop (physical PS1 release was Japan-only).

But yeah, if I can drive down to the local GameStop and get a physical copy of the game in question I'd choose that over a download.

Retro stuff.... Like I said, I go digital (cheaper) if there's a huge price disparity. No way I could ever afford an actual physical copy of Twinkle Star Sprites.

thing is - many retro gamers are resistant to the fact that retro gaming is very viable in a digital landscape. That's just the collector in them. And that's fine. It is what it is. If you prefer collecting, then great. But there is plenty to explore cheap and digitally if you don't want to collect. I'm speaking of GOG/Steam/PSN/XBLA/Android/iOS/etc.

I'm kind of the same way as Bone. If I want an old game, I'll opt for whatever is cheap or easiest to me. If it's on GOG or Steam and I don't have to deal with tricky installs - great. Otherwise, I hunt down a physical copy. If I want a new game, I tend to go for what's cheapest physical or digital.

At this point I only get physical games if it's actually cheaper for me than buying digital. For example, rental clearance section or the odd case of things like Nobunaga's Ambition where it says $60 on Steam almost forever yet I can get a used copy on PS4 for $15.
