Pretty sad to see Recore getting some bad lukewarm initial reception. Even if I don't have an X1, it's a team of ex-Retro/Metroid Prime devs so I wanted to wish them for the best.
The really depressing part is it sounded like one of the main guys could see the writing on the wall. Game Informer had an interview with one of the leads on a podcast last week and the guy just didn't sound very confident about the game, for whatever reason. Lack of time, resources, staff, or something, I couldn't tell, but yeah after seeing new videos it does look pretty rough.

Start with GBC DQIII. Not only is it far and away the best of the original trilogy, it is a prequel to the first two games.Xeogred wrote:But... I've been craving some FF4-FF6 replays!![]()
I'll probably start with the GBC DQ1-2 sometime.
Also, in (tepid) defense of DQII, I must admit that I respected its open world. The game definitely does not hold your hand, and it cuts you loose pretty early. Lack of direction aside, I wish more modern games took that approach.

I can't remember if it was in Spectrum, or just one of the digest emails I get from IEEE, but I was looking at an article recently that was talking about a property of the angular momentum of photons that is allowing for data to be sent in bursts of helix patterns, without crosstalk. They achieved exa scale data transfer rates with this method. I agree that it's unlikely anyone will really push streaming boxes into homes, on a large scale, any time soon, but there's some pretty lewd science being done these days.isiolia wrote:I don't think that's necessarily the only factor. There's also the not-insignificant consideration of where the majority of the processing is done, which is a major addition to what streaming music or video requires. Enabling thin client style streaming gaming means nearly everything is being done in a server farm somewhere, and having that on tap for every player on a platform would likely demand a massive amount of infrastructure.Exhuminator wrote:The only thing perpetuating console generations from this point on, is spotty broadband. The sooner proper broadband is perpetuated throughout the relevant sales regions, the sooner streaming boxes will take consoles' places.
Building and maintaining that may not balance against simply selling interested consumers a box with sufficient processing power to begin with.
Obviously, with obscene bandwidth, you could use cloud storage in lieu of a hard drive, and still process it locally.
I finished DQ III not too terribly long ago, which makes it much easier to list which ones I've beaten: I-IV and VIII. My main take-aways from III were, 'holy shit, the thief class is broken,' 'holy shit, all of these enemies have absurdly smooth animations,' and, 'wow, I really hate all of these enemies in Necrogond's cave, and the bonus area.' I think I still like IV, and (especially) VIII the most.prfsnl_gmr, et al wrote:Dragon Quest

Is it similar to FF2's more open design?prfsnl_gmr wrote:Start with GBC DQIII. Not only is it far and away the best of the original trilogy, it is a prequel to the first two games.Xeogred wrote:But... I've been craving some FF4-FF6 replays!![]()

I think it sounds super cool. I've got a couple games in the mail from Exhuminator that I promised to play and review as soon as they get here, but I plan to play Recore as my next console game as soon as I finish those two. I'll be sure to post a review when I finish it.Xeogred wrote:Pretty sad to see Recore getting some bad lukewarm initial reception. They are boxed up and shipping out priority Friday. If you actually beat GunValkyrie I will be impressed with your powers of determination.ElkinFencer10 wrote:I've got a couple games in the mail from Exhuminator that I promised to play and review as soon as they get here

I beat Chasing Dead (if you haven't read my review of that, you should go find it on my blog); I feel confident that I can handle GunValkyrie.Exhuminator wrote:They are boxed up and shipping out priority Friday. The Thief was an addition to the remakes. It's not in the NES version. I remember using them in the GBC version, but I don't particularly remember why they're broken compared to the rest of the classes.
I do know that I almost always choose a Fighter over the Soldier, the insane speed + hitting power once criticals are factored in make them an excellent choice, they're cheap to maintain, and the remakes give them a few more claw weapons to use, bringing them up a bit more than the NES release. They were still good, there, too, but the last piece of equipment you'll use for them there is the Iron Claw, because the Golden Claw is cursed and will see you encounter an enemy every single step. This isn't the case in the SNES version, though, if you can get out of the pyramid with it, you're golden.

I always went Soldier first, then class change to a Fighter.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Well finally got on PSN today. Now I may finally get into the Suikoden series. Like Shantae, I can't justify spending money on the physical games. Well, at least this applies to the second one. Especially when I can get 'em digitally for so cheap.
Also downloaded some Android stuff. I am turning into digital man.
