Utterly satisfying video game moves and weapons

Post by J T »

What game moves and weapons do you find the most satisfying to use?

Here are mine:
Nintendo Pro Wrestling: The character Fighter Hayabusa has a move called the back brain kick that can knock your opponent down flat whenever it connects. It's kind of difficult to pull off because you have to be diagonally just below your opponent when they are not moving for it to connect, but when it does their head crooks forward and they fall to the ground. It always feels awesome to pull this off and you can pin them to the mat right afterwards. I love when this kick connects.

Bionic Commando (NES): The grappling arm. I love the feel of swinging from platform to platform with the grappling arm, and it's also versatile for knocking back enemies or grabbing items. Once you get good with it, the game just feels great to play.

Yoshimitsu's sword stab move in the Tekken games. It's kind of like Captain Falcon's Falcon Punch... it's slow, but if it connects, YOU DEAD.

Killer Instinct
Aganos' wall crash https://vid.me/OCHG
Punching people through walls for crazy burst damage never gets old.

Omen's Demonic Despair https://account.xbox.com/en-us/gameclip ... 69642bec88
Causes 100% potential damage to the opponent at the cost of 3 bars of shadow meter which has to be cashed out with a followup combo. Very tricky to pull off in a real match due to its short range and high risk.

This is sort of unspecific, but I love it when you can attack directly down in 2D action-platformers. Then you can just jump on enemies and rain Death From Above on them.

Castlevania: SOTN and many others: Jumping and attacking just before landing so your landing cancels the attack animation and you can attack again far faster than had you been on ground for both attacks.

SOTN's Crissaegrim is so fun to just slice through everything with. And you can even dualwield it for maximum OP.

Very unspecific, but when you're playing a drifty racer (Battle Gear, Burnout, Ridge Racer, whatever) and you slide through a corner nearly sideways while hitting the apex just right...love it.

Have you tried the Game Boy port/re-imagining (not Elite Forces on GBC)? The grappling arm mechanics were tweaked to feel even better there.

Tekken had a couple moves like this. Roger/Alex had what my friends and I referred to as "The Stupid Punch" where he literally pinwheeled his one arm for a few seconds. True story, one time we did it to each other at the exact same time - exploded us both backwards, double ko (it was a powerful move, but not a one shot one normally)

But the best was Kuma/Panda's Deadly Wind (yes that was its official name) where the bear turns his back to you, gets on all 4s, and farts a lethal fart. It had such a tiny range in addition to being so slow... But if you were good with the timing you could juggle someone into it.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
