So what have you guys been watching lately?

I finished Stranger Things and The Get Down last week. Both were amazing and I'm really sad they are over. The Get Down is the best Netflix original I have seen yet.

What is The Get Down about? I haven't watched a trailer yet.

It takes place in 1977 around the birth of hip hop and the beginning decline of disco. It's about a fictional group of kids being part of that music scene's development.

A lot of work went into the music of this show. They hired a music historian to cull together amazing music for the soundtrack. They got oral histories of hip hop's origins from Afrika Bambaataa and Grand Master Flash. They hired Nas to help with the original music used in the show. The episodes are brilliantly edited to tie multiple storylines together around the music, so that a song being sung in one scene, weaves into a rap verse in another scene, which then becomes the background music for another dramatic scene, etc. This show is HYPE! I love it.

The word is that I think it's been confirmed Stranger Things will get another season.

Personally, I think it would be cool if they're stand alone seasons and they can hit up some other 80's themes and tropes.

No idea where it'll go though or if it's a direct continuation.

My wife and I felt that standalone seasons would be great for Stranger Things as well, but I believe they've already said that it will be a continuation.

yeah my wife and I were talking about that. If they do the continuation it'll be difficult to see where they go as now a good handful of people in this town know about what's going on. It's the classic Twin Peaks thing y'know? Or even True Blood. The more that folks in that town knew about what was going on, the weaker it got. It's a challenge. But the first season was soooo good. I'm def interested to see where they take it.

BTW, y'all know about the Stranger Things x Parks N Rec thing right? If not, look it up. It's hilarious.

watched the first episode of Batman The Animated Series and holy shit you guys were right - this show really is impressive.

Yeah my roommate still praises it. I think a lot of top tier Japanese studios even animated some episodes from time to time. DC holds up well in the classic animation department, unlike Marvel. It's real hard to go back to 90's X-Men or Spiderman...
