Ah so they play it up in description more than reality kind of. I noticed a 'win' is like just a pissy weak 25XP taking down the first kill and I think owning a spot was like 100 when I got it that one time off a loner. Each time you rank the level of the gym itself by repeatedly picking away at it with fights, it will +1 a parking spot on there to drop one in.

Seems a bit weak and overly simplified, guess I'm not all that upset about never getting anywhere with it since the personal returns are borderline useless.

I got my evolution into a Staryu today and also to Nidorina, multiple pidgeyotto, and also finally saw and captured a growlithe I believe it was, about the least possible CP which was a nut punch since my wife snapped it too (she's lower level by 2) and hers was in the 400s...so I erased it for the candy. A lame 2K egg busted open though, gave me my ever elusive Squirtle and he was lv 400 or so too which is good. I kept seeing those but never got one to pop up to go for it and all that put me 1/3 into lv 17.

About training in your own team's gyms, I picked up a VALUABLE tip last week to get more prestige doing that: Use a Pokémon that is *lower* than the one you're fighting. You'll get more prestige that way! The lower the better!

Good example: Getting into the new level 10 gym I did the other day, lowest Pokémon was a Vaporeon with around 1000 CP. I attacked it with my Gloom (grass being effective against water) at 951 CP, which was lower than that Vaporeon. That gets around 500 prestige! The lower you can go, the potentially better the prestige award will be. That also saves valuable time and potions!

Also remember, you don't have to fight all the way through a gym, whether training or attacking. Run away if it's getting too tough. Even beating one Pokémon gets you a prestige bonus.

Today I did this to my advantage. A nearby gym was held by Instinct (level 3), and it had an Arcanine, Nidoking, and Nidoqueen. Both Nidos were at 1960 CP, but the Arcanine was only at around 1500. My high CP Vaporeon is still in the Level 9 (as of the other day) gym, so I went with my 1200CP Starmie with Hydro Pump. I just fought the Arcanine then ran away, and instead of using potions, I used my Revives to bring it back with half health (I had my Golduck and Vaporeon 2 as backups) Each battle that I won knocked 500 prestige off that gym, so I did it 4 times to knock the gym down a level. Now Arcanine's out, it's level 2, and it will make it easier for hopefully Valor to take back.

XP awards in gyms aren't much: If you're attacking a gym you only get 100XP for each Pokémon you bring down. Marurun is right again, watch for gym snipers even as you try to add a Pokémon in, it happened to me once too, after fighting to gain a level there even!

In other news, my new 5km eggs hatched, got a brand new Mankey as well as male and female Nidorans. The 2 10km eggs are next.

Now that's a good description, and you also reminded me, I think I failed to mention it, but an egg gave me Mankey today too which surprised me. He isn't that great somewhere in the 300s I think, but hey it's a fighting pokemon unlock for the pokedex at least.

Also somehow I popped 2 new eggs into inventory today I hadn't noticed, finally got my first 2 10km eggs, and wiped the final 2k which was that squirtle.

Basically I guess if you can be active squatting an area for a little while gym work could be worth it, if you have the CP high enough to work it on some pokemon, otherwise it's almost better off just not bothering especially if you can't coordinate it.

My Mankey was near the edge of the CP arc at 494. It seems that Fighting types as well as some Rock types like Onix aren't going to have crazy amounts of CP like many other Pokémon, but I love the move set on this Mankey, Scratch and Cross Chop, a full meter charge attack.

I always try to train whenever possible, if I can add a new Pokémon quick, it's not a bad idea, it increases the level which benefits everyone in the gym and it also allows you a potential defender bonus. But if the lowest Pokémon is the gym has a ridiculously high CP, it's not worth the potions. I try to go for around 1000 or lower because I still have Pokémon that can fight them with little effort. I also wouldn't suggest doing gyms at Level 5 or above on your own either. The best success I had in a solo gym takedown was a level 4, and even that took a while at the cost of good items. That level 5 gym I took down the other day I had valuable assistance with. No way am I going to fight a 1988CP Snorlax by myself, unless it was maybe the only one in the gym!

I can't figure out how to consistently pull off the heavy hitting move. I know a light tap is your fast light attack, and I thought pressing for a moment did the other but seems to fail 9/10 times, not sure why.

I found a Tauros today, that was new, the one off 3 tailed cow with no evolution in the 400-500cp range. Not sure what I'll do with it, but probably in the end just candy the thing and leave it for the pokedex.

Too hot outside so I went to the mall to walk around. Only one Pokestop there, so I really drained my Pokeball supply, because the trash Pokemon were coming fast and furious. Didn't need incense or lure modules to catch like crazy. Only sad that there was nothing unusual. Also, the cp 30-75 seemed much more likely to run away after only a toss or two than the higher level stuff. Had no problem catching cp 300-500 stuff, but that low-level stuff was awkward.

Game is quirky like that, just wish as I said in my last post I could figure out how to correctly and consistently do the secondary hard attacks. The mall near me is an odd situation, they built one on each side of the freeway, but you can really see which of them is popular. One on the east side of the freeway that looks/is a bit more upper scale has just one, but the everyman nicer (but not quite as affluent/spendy) has a good dozen. I walked it yesterday, got stuck with the wife going into a shop or too, ended up rolling about 2/3 of the stops at least twice which is great for refills. It also allowed that post I did the other day about going up an entire level and then some into the next with multiple pick-ups as I just kept getting so much of those cheap common pidgey. Each one if you nuke it too is worth 4, and 12 evolves so ... 100x3 and 100+500xp on the fourth so it just kept ticking away.

The second attack requires a long press on your Pokémon. You'll notice a dark blue bar move right underneath your lighter blue charge bar. Once that reaches the right hand side you can let go and attack. If it doesn't activate, let go and long press again, that's a problem I've come across too.

I found a wild Omanyte today. Only 250 CP. But it's new! I also evolved Persian and a bunch of Pidgeys/rats for around 15k. I'm now halfway to level 23.

My Exeggutor was kicked out of the Level 10 gym tonight around 8:30 (a 76 hour stint), I don't know if the gym completely fell or if it got knocked down a few levels, mine was 4th in the order. I still have 2 Pokémon elsewhere, but I was hoping to get 400 coins for 2 bag upgrades (I'm at 360 now). My Vaporeon has been in the level 9/10 gym now for a full week!!!

Getting a Tauros may be a little easier now, as we've seen in the past couple of posts, because there's been talk of making the region-specific Pokémon more common, this has been reported in Australia and Europe. It's part of another server-side update which also changed movesets of a handful of Pokémon. The Silph Research Group determined these following Pokémon to be affected:

Image

This only applies to new Pokémon caught starting today. Older Pokémon you may have with the older movesets would be considered collector's items now!

Best 10km egg EVER!

A super-SOLID gym defender with all the HP it gets, more than Snorlax! I also got 25 candy with it so I powered it up all the way to it's maximum for my current level. CP is low but it's gonna be great for gym training and gym defense! It unfortunately doesn't have Hyper Beam as its charge attack but I'm sure Dazzling Gleam will be equally effective. YES!

I almost got one of those in the wild a few weeks back but after a few balls it bailed, was kind of pissed as it's never popped up again. I recall it having not the best CP probably 1/2 that one but that HP on it must have been fantastic if it's proportionate to that.

Got myself 1/2 through lv17 today, also found another Taurous that's twice the CP of the one I had with the same moves so it was a trade out. An egg popped me a quite non-crappy Growlithe 567cp too compared to the 10cp turd I found a week back.

Also before hitting submit, noticed I had the candy on a eevee I had that was in the 350s cp, turned into a jolteon with 705cp junk compared to my existing with 885 so I nuked it.
