What era of gaming did you grow up in?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I have been apart of every gaming generation since the Atari 2600. I would say that I "grew up" with the 32 bit generation of the Playstation and Saturn.

I experienced the Atari VCS/2600 very young, but I think I grew up on 8/16-bit stuff. Didn't own my own until 16-bit, but a big fan of arcades and friends' systems during the 8-bit.

Man, I cringe at the money I dropped on awful nintendo games. ALL of my money went to nintendo games. It still hurts to think about the night I dropped $45 plus tax on Fester's Quest.

My brother and I once convinced my mom to pay full price for Peter Pan on NES - which was based on the cartoon that would play after school.

I still feel guilty about that one...

I thought Festers Quest was oddly great! It had good exploration, powerups and cool bosses.

My brother had to get his tonsils taken out, and our parents rewarded us with the NES. The first game that hooked me was Legend of Zelda, but I also played Batman and Contra like crazy.

Later, we progressed to the Sega Genesis and a Turbo Duo, picked up on clearance at Toys R Us for $99. Still the best video game purchase I ever made. Armed with GameFan reviews of Loom, Lords of Thunder, etc., we picked up as many awesome and underappreciated TG-16 games up as possible at mega sale prices. So I started with the NES, but it was my trusty Duo (still running great today!) that I ended up having the greatest affinity for.
I run the 8/16-bit retro site TimeWarpGamer and if you want to follow the latest updates, check me out on Twitter.

I got my first introduction to gaming on the 2600 at a friend's place, but what really got me was the NES we got at Christmas one faithful year. I remember our family sitting around together taking turns playing SMB and trying to figure out some of the puzzles and filling out the rest of the partial map that came with Zelda. Good times!
