Random Gaming Thoughts
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Oh if you want to get really crazy you should see the atari stuff when I got a lot of about 175 or so 2600 games a few years ago there were a shitload of duplicates so I combed over them in fine detail and ended up adding a good number of variants. There were probably dozens of variants for every game since most of the games recieved 3+ prints, games were being printed all over the place US, Mexico, Taiwan, China, etc. etc., and some stores like Sears made their own variants. Biggest thing I uncovered was some of the mass produced games like Defender, Air-Sea Battle, and etc. had variants where the artwork was cropped differently. It's to bad that the Atari carts are sealed in such a way that you basically have to destroy the labels to get at them would really love to open them up and compare some of the boards from the various reprints.

Although Pokémon GO doesn't hold any interest for me personally, I do totally understand why people enjoy the concept, and I'm glad it's going so well for Nintendo.
As far as I know, this is the first big mobile game Nintendo's done, and I'm glad it's going so well for them. Perhaps this will push Nintendo to create more AR related smartphone games in franchises I do enjoy. I mean, I wouldn't mind hunting down AR metroids in my neighborhood, or even simply getting an Android F-Zero sequel.
At the same time, if Nintendo continues to have massive success in the mobile market, I have to wonder how that would affect their view of continued dedicated handheld gaming. Right now I think they are trying to cater to both forms of hardware, but if one starts to greatly outpace the other in sales, it's a no brainer as to what direction they'll go.

I once played too much Super Metroid as a kid and inadvertently started playing an AR Metroid. I was convinced that a Metroid was guarding the approach to the bathroom in the hall and since I didn't have the Ice Beam there was no way past it to pee. Fortunately I realized I could duck into my parents' room and use the master bath.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I think if Ninty cared less about hardware and more about giving games to folks on the hardware they already have they would be in a very good situation.

That's actually my fear.
The NX looks like it'll be a strange merger of the handheld and console, so who knows.
It's cool Go is doing crazy though. And people thought the Wii U was going to sink them. lol...

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
To be clear I am just saying it would benefit Nintendo and gamers alike if hardware exclusives weren't a thing. Their games sell great. I think they would sell even better if they had to stop convincing folks to buy new hardware to play them. Just my thought.

People need to realize that Nintendo's not going to sink any time soon. Even if they release several lackluster systems in a row, their war chest from the Wii's success will protect the company from failure for a very long time.Xeogred wrote:That's actually my fear.![]()
