Read it slowly - take it all in.
I have a habit of flying through books... because of that some books are not as good. Killing Joke was average, or below when I just read the words. I reread it years later slowly taking in every panel and wow.

After the Killing Joke I highly recommend: Batman Arkham Asylum by by Grant Morrison and Dave McKean
The inmates of Arkham Asylum have taken over Gotham's detention center for the criminally insane on April Fool's Day, demanding Batman in exchange for their hostages. Accepting their demented challenge, Batman is forced to endure the personal hells of the Joker, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Two-Face and many other sworn enemies in order to save the innocents and retake the prison. During his run through this absurd gauntlet, the Dark Knight's must face down both his most dangerous foes and his inner demons. This is the critically acclaimed Batman story that helped launch the U.S. careers of Grant Morrison and Dave McKean.

Batman is hard for me, intellectually. He is, fundamentally, an over-used and over-done character, and the Joker is actually not that compelling a villain, and yet, so many folks write such great stories for the title.

I've been wanting to read this for years, since I watched Dark Knight. I'm glad I finally got to it - and am looking forward to the animated film later this month. I thought the art was excellent; the writing was dark and awesome; and the ending... it was one of those just sit there and think for a while endings. Well done.

I read the Deluxe Edition which also included a brief after-comic called "An Innocent Man," which was brief but interesting. Not really necessary considering how great the main book was, but I suppose it pads out the edition a bit considering Killing Joke is relatively short.

I went to an auction over the weekend to see if I could pick up a large lot of comic books. Picked up the lot of 305 books for $45.

Most everything is from the late '70s-Mid '80s, but there are a few from earlier. The vast majority were Superman related books. But it also included Superboy and Wonder Woman, as well as a few one-off and random additions from various times.

Most of the more interesting pick-up are from the random additions they threw in, including a copy of Batman #186, some Oswald the Rabbit, Bugs Bunny's Vacation Funnies #8, and several issues of the Shazam! comic from '73-'78. A few of what I picked up have the potential to be somewhat valuable, so I'm gonna have to pick up some more bags/boards for them soon.

Here's a list I made of everything if anyone is curious to know what I got:

You can ignore the numbers. I just didn't have a calculator handy while I was adding them up. Also, please forgive my chicken scratch

thanks to Prime Day I just ordered a box set that includes the Watchmen graphic novel and some crazy 4-disc special edition of the movie. I guess it's the theatrical cut, the "ultimate" cut, a motion comic version, and some other stuff. I had wanted the book and $25 marked down from $60 seemed like I was getting a lot of stuff for a good price.

That looked like a nice set. If I didn't already have the book and movie I would have been tempted.

I did buy one of the collections of Avatar: The Last Airbender comics, though. They have a couple on sale, but I figured I'd start with one to see what I think before diving into the rest.

today only you can get a one year subscription to Marvel Unlimited for $55. I'm sort of tempted, but not gonna bite.

Oh, and I read the first issue of Watchmen last night. Good stuff.
