I've mostly ignored this since the title makes it one of the unofficial Django sequel. Also, the review in Shobary's didn't give me much of a impression. Maybe I'll check it out though.prfsnl_gmr wrote: Django Kill...If You Live, Shoot! It is way, way better than Django (which, IMO, wasn't that great).OldSchool_Boy wrote:I've mostly ignored this since the title makes it one of the unofficial Django sequel. I don't know what to believe anymore because I absolutely love Django. Did you watch it dubbed?prfsnl_gmr wrote:It is way, way better than Django (which, IMO, wasn't that great).OldSchool_Boy wrote:I've mostly ignored this since the title makes it one of the unofficial Django sequel. I watched it dubbed. It was a fine spaghetti western. I have just seen two better adaptations of Dashiell Hammett's Red Harvest (i.e., A Fist Full of Dollars and Yojimbo), and IMO, Django paled in comparison to those classics. Django Kill, on the other hand, was entirely original, and I could not predict its plot at all. (Seriously, the person I suspected was the main villain was killed about 1/3 of the way into the film. After that, I had no idea where it was going.)

I have always loved the image of Django wandering into that town dragging a coffin behind him. Even if someone were to find nothing else to enjoy about that movie, that image is unusual enough to attract interest. It's one of the reasons why I started trying to write weird westerns, because I found it so profound.

If you like strange westerns, then Django Kill...If You Live, Shoot! (1967) is right up your alley. (It is currently available for streaming on Hulu+, BTW.) From the Wikipedia description:Ack wrote:I have always loved the image of Django wandering into that town dragging a coffin behind him. Also, the version I watched has some of the movie's more violent scenes restored; so, it lapses in and out of Italian for a while.Wikipedia wrote:Marco Giusti defines the film as the most violent and bizarre ever filmed in Italy...The Mexicans dig their own grave and are shot, however their leader is badly wounded and survives being buried alive. He is rescued by a pair of Indians who treat his wounds in exchange for his addressing their people on what he has seen of the afterlife during the period he was "dead". They also give him golden bullets to use for his revenge. Pursuing the gang that killed his comrades, the Stranger finds shelter among locals but Templer, a saloon owner, Hagerman an Alderman who keeps his wife a prisoner in their home and Sorrow, the leader of a band of black garbed homosexuals hear about the gold and want it for themselves.

Heh, yeah, I'm gonna have to check that out...though I will question if it really is the most violent. After all, the Italians made Anthropophagus...

I didn't think it was that violent...I guess I am just desensitized. The movie does, however, employ a lot of Italian horror conventions, and at times, I felt like I was watching a Mario Bava film...Again, it is a very odd film.Ack wrote:Heh, yeah, I'm gonna have to check that out...though I will question if it really is the most violent.
