Did ya get 'em all at once? I did that a year or two ago. Most likely from eBay seller hit-japan.

Not yet. I'll pick them up the next time I am itching to add some SFC games to my collection. (I am wrapping up my 360 collection at the moment. Only four games to go!)

The Great Battle III



It's the third game in the Great Battle series that I talked about earlier in this thread. I had found the second entry dissapointing. It was a fairly generic and poorly designed 2D scrolling beat-em up.
This third game is the same genre but fixes all of it's predecessors problems. This time, the game is a Golden Axe parody with Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Gundam and that other guy transported to a fantasy dimension.
Characters can again be switched between at any point but unlike the second game where they were merely pallette swaps this time they each have different weapons and techniques. Gundam is the barbarian Ax Battler type, Kamen Rider has a spear that he can throw enemies with, Kamen Rider is an archer and the other guy is still the one nobody cares about.



The weapons fix the second games main problem the tiny attacks of the characters punching are now broad sweeps of a weapon and much more satisfying. The difficulty is less frustrating. There are shops in game that can be visited to buy powerups collected by vanquished foes and every stage now has a password allowing you to restart from any stage instead of just every two stages.

The humour of the first game is also back in spades (a wizard will cast a spell on you briefly turning you into a powerless little Japanese man, etc)

There are still some annoying moments with insta-deaths caused by poor hit detection/respawning over pits but graphically and sonically the ideas and music in this game are back to the standard of the first game.



There is some Japanese in the game but the story is easy enough to follow and you can figure out shop items by trial and error. Passwords are in English.

Overall a fun little fantasy/sci-fi beat-em-up that gets this series back on track.

I remember this game from an issue of GameFan I have. It looked really cool!

Of course, GameFan had a way of making almost anything look cool.

III is an excellent beat'em up though. I highly recommend it.

I'm enjoying the series alot despite the slightly sub-par second entry. Very much looking forward to IV and V although they aren't quite as bargain basement in terms of price as the first three entries they are still on the lower end of the SFC spectrum.

About the third game, is there a faq or resource anywhere online to help out with the shop items. Even after buying and using some of them I can't figure out what they do and one of them (a book) seemingly can't be used.

I was wondering how the SFC price of Skyblazer/Karuraou would stack up.

I was surprised to see that every copy on ebay is going for more than 3 times the price of the Western release.

Can anyone explain why?

Mario & Wario is a nice Super Famicom exclusive that's playable and cheap. You can get a cart for around $8 or a CIB for around $17, slightly more if you want the boxed version with the mouse.

No, I would think that's Wrecking Crew '98. It's a side scrolling puzzle game using the mouse to guide a fairy to protect Mario by changing his environment. Wario keeps putting things on Mario's head rendering him sightless. It's a very interesting and unique game and another way to make use of the mouse.

Jumping back to the Great Battle series.

I won an auction for The Great Battle Gaiden 2: Matsuri da Wasshoi today for the princely sum of £0.95p

It's "gaiden" status aside, it's the direct sequel to a Game Boy game that I already have heading to me from a different source.

I've no idea how it ranks in the somewhat uneven tapestry of the series (pretty good first game, uninspired second game, great third, fourth and fifth entries) but online it's described as

"a mix of genres. The chief gameplay is a platformer where the player can leap up and down floors similar to Ninja-Kid or Mr. Goemon. If the player enters a flying gate, they are escorted to a shoot 'em up stage in which they control a flying lobster fighting samurai heads and Maneki Nekos."

In fact there seem to be multiple mini games involved as I've also seen an Arkanoid style level on youtube.

Cheap as chips and sure to give me some enjoyment as I seem to be collecting a large amount of SD Gundam based titles of late and, surprisingly, enjoying the vast majority.
