Ha! Well, I'm glad you finally were able to get to it and enjoyed it!J T wrote:Actually, I remember you saying you really liked the manga in a discussion about Akira from long ago. It stuck in my head and for years I have been saying, I gotta read the Akira mangas because Ack said they were great. Well, I finally took your advice!Ack wrote:
And Akira is awesome, JT. All six volumes dominate my main shelf for graphic novels, and I also have an imported volume six in Japanese for the aesthetic value. I highly recommend the manga to everyone.

Re: The Comic Book Thread
Suicide Squad movie comes out in August. I've seen Batman Begins and Dark Knight. Y'all think there's any reason I need to see DK Rises before SS?
Re: The Comic Book Thread
Nope, because SS is a completely different universe from the Nolan trilogy.

Re: The Comic Book Thread
What Popo said.
The Nolan Trilogy (Batman Begins, Dark Knight, and Dark Knight Rises) is one series of movies completely disconnected from any other movie outside that Trilogy. For what it's worth, I think that's a mistake. The casting director of Batman vs Superman should have thrown buckets of money at Christian Bale to get him on board instead of Ben Afleck... but it's too late to change that now.
DC started a new series of movies in 2013 (in reaction to the rampant success of Marvel's Avengers) with Zach Snyder's Man of Steel. Batman vs Superman is a direct continuation of that series. Suicide Squad takes place in the same universe. Zach Snyder is supposed to return to direct Justice League part 1 in 2017 and produce Aquaman in 2018. Box Office receipts will determine if those plans follow through.

Re: The Comic Book Thread
alright cool - no rush on finishing the Nolan trilogy then.
I have like no interest in Superman.
But I will see Suicide Squad.
I picked up two books today: Fantastic Four Season One and Hulk Season One - each was $6 for hardcovers and came w/ digital copies which is very nice.
I was tempted to grab issue #1 of Civil War II just because it's new and all, but I figured I probably shouldn't jump ahead until I read all of the first CW book.
OH! And I finished reading Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe today. It was alright. Fun, but kind of pointless ultimately.

I now have a subscription to Marvel comics for the first time ever. Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Howard the Duck, Patsy Walker aka Hellcat!, and The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl.
I was alienated from Marvel & DC for years but Squirrel Girl won me back and now I have NO REGRETS because they've managed to put out some pretty quality titles.

Have you read All-Star Superman? IMO it's a top-tier comic and absolutely accomplishes its mission of being a distillation of everything great about Superman and is independent of the muckpile that is DC Universe continuity. TRY IT.noiseredux wrote:I have like no interest in Superman.

Ryan North's new Squirrel Girl is pretty good. If you like that, I would also really recommend Ms. Marvel, by G. Willow Wilson, and LumberJanes, which is published by Boom Box. Both are fantastic.

Nah, I'm not into comics about all powerful characters. They're just too perfect.marurun wrote:Ryan North's new Squirrel Girl is pretty good.
