Winter Soldier is Captain America 2.

Here's pretty much the order of things:

Iron Man 1 (Iron Man 2 isn't a bad choice either, since you'll get to see War Machine)
Captain America 1 (The First Avenger)
Thor 1
Avengers 1
Iron Man 3
Thor 2(The Dark World)
Captain America 2 (Winter Soldier)
Avengers 2 (Age of Ultron)
Ant-Man
Captain America 3 (Civil War)

I don't find the 2008 The Incredible Hulk movie to be terribly important. Guardians of the Galaxy doesn't yet connect, so it can be watched anytime. Iron Man 2 and 3 offer some background info on what's going on with Iron Man, Stark Industries, and War Machine. The Thor movies gives you info on what's going down with Thor and Loki. The Cap and Avengers movies are the real meat here. Ant-Man has one scene that establishes his relationship with the Avengers to setup his appearance in Cap 3.

If you really want to cut the fat though, watch these:

Iron Man 1
Captain America 1
Thor 1
Avengers 1
Cap 2
Avengers 2
That one scene in Ant-Man
Cap 3

Correct. Watch Captain America and Thor before you watch Avengers. Winter Soldier is the second Cap movie. Watch Captain America: Winter Soldier after you watch Avengers.

Good call Popo. Those three movies are requisite.

Watching Ant-man is also a good idea, but maybe not strictly necessary. Ant-man doesn't have a lot of screen time in Civil War, but he does show up with practically no introduction. Watch Ant-man after you watch Captain America: Winter Soldier.

The only thing I would say in addendum to this is that the TV series are optional. You don't need to watch any of the TV series to watch the movies. The movies influence the TV shows, but the TV shows do not influence the movies.

I've been watching films at the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) lately. Here's what I have seen:

Other People
This was written and directed by one of the writers from SNL and stars Molly Shannon (superstar!). It is a very personal and largely autobiographical story about the writer's relationship with his mother as she was dying of cancer during a time when he was trying to make it as a comedy writer. It careens through lots of quick curves from tragic one moment to funny the next. The drama gives the comedy more meaning, while the comedy cuts the tension when the drama becomes unbearably sad. It was a beautiful movie that managed to deal with a serious issue without being too depressing or too hokey.

The Lovers and the Despot
This was the kind of documentary where truth is stranger than fiction. It is the crazy tale of two South Korean filmmakers who were married, are one day kidnapped by North Koreans at the request of Kim Jong Il, so that they might make propoganda movies, and other high quality films, for the betterment of North Korea's reputation around the world. It's unbelievable what these people went through. It's an incredible story, though the filmmaking was pretty average.

Beware the Slenderman
This is a documentary about two teenage girls that stabbed their friend because they thought it killing her would win them favor from the Slenderman. This was my favorite SIFF movie I saw this year. The movie is interspersed with various fan images and videos of Slenderman that blur the lines of fantasy and reality for the audience as well, as you hear and see actual police interviews of the girls immediately after the stabbing, you see interviews and home footage of the families, and you witness courtroom scenes and media coverage about the case. It was all really fascinating and in trying to understand why these girls did this, it leaves you with more questions than answers.

The Intervention
This was a movie about some friends planning on a weekend to have an intervention for their two friends in a troubled marriage. They are trying to convince them to get a divorce, but they are terrible at putting on an intervention and all of their own personal problems come to the fore and comedy ensues.

I started w/ Iron Man which is #2 so not a big deal. Though I'm not sure if I'd stick to this list or not. Part depends on which movies I happen to get a hold of first and how patient I can be. Haha. And like you guys mentioned that really Guardians can be watched whenever. And I can't really see myself binging a whole season of a show before I watch one movie. But this is a cool reference.

Plus, there's all the non MCU movies that I could watch too.
