You quit SHIELD right before it started getting good. The post-Winter Soldier episodes are when things really pick up, and from there the show has found its legs and has been extremely enjoyable to watch.

Thankfully they are totally unrelated.

I know I'm totally alone, but I liked the Affleck DD. TV show is way better though. Also, I agree with Popo, stick with SHEILD more than a few eps. It starts slow, but the last two seasons were killer.

to be fair - I don't remember hating it. Just thinking "yeah that was alright." But like I said, been a long time. I'm open to seeing it again. I'm on the Marvel kick, so whatever movies pop at yard sales, I'll grab em and watch em.

I kind of liked the Ben Affleck Daredevil too I even liked Elektra a bit. Hell I liked a lot of the marvel universe stuff from around that time I think The Punisher(2004) was also very good even though it was a more focused on realism compared to most of the other stuff at the time. Some people say that Warzone which came out a few years later was better and more honest to the comics but I didn't really care much for it and can hardly remember it :P.

The Netflix show is definitely leagues better in the story department though and I've felt the casting choices so far have been great.

Edit: After screwing around on IMDB I bumped into Grizzly Maze(2015) this movie looks horriibly bad, but actually has some bigger names involved in it. They must not have advertised at all though because it went completely under my radar will have to check it out and see just how bad it is. They must of had a fair amount of money to get Scott Glenn, Billy Bob Thornton, James Marsden, and Thomas Jane involved, but it looks like they really skimped on the CGI. The location they chose for shooting looks gorgeous though.

noiseredux wrote:for those of you following my progress getting back into Marvel stuff 20 years later, I was out shopping w/ my wife today and hit up a movie store while she was trying stuff on. They had a B2G1 on used DVD's, so I grabbed the first Avengers and Guardians Of The Galaxy for $15 total.
I approve of this. I love the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Guardians of the Galaxy is flipping fun as hell. This is my favorite Marvel movie. Great script, quick pacing, witty dialog, cool cameos. You can watch this movie at any time. There are no prerequisite Marvel movies.

Avengers is quite possibly the best Superhero movie, but unlike GotG Avengers has a number of prerequisites. I know you watched Ironman recently. Watch Captain America: The First Avenger, and watch Thor (in either order) before you watch Avengers for maximum impact.

Captain America: The First Avenger was better than I expected. I went in thinking that it was going to be cheesy. You know what? It was cheesy in kind of a good way. Steve Rogers is well aware that he looks silly in that costume, but he wears it anyway. The fact that he knows how he looks in that getup helps the audience identify with the protagonist. As you might guess from the title, This movie sets up the Avengers franchise.

Thor is a fun superhero romp that sets up one of the principle Avengers AND the primary antagonist of the Avengers. Female Audience members react well to Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

good to know on CapAm/Thor. Maybe I will plan to wait on Avengers, then.

RE: Elektra et al, though I didn't see all the Marvel flicks of that era, I did mostly enjoy the ones I did. The Punisher movies looked good. The Ghost Rider ones I was always iffy about, though.

Last night around 11pm I had a strange urge. To eat salsa and chips while watching this:

Used Cars / released: 1980

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Used_Cars

This was a surreal movie to see for the first time in 2016, 36 years after its release in theaters. I say strange, because of just how different society has become since 1980. If a movie like Used Cars was released today, it'd probably cause a shitstorm. This film is racist, sexist, and entirely reveling in bad taste. It also actually managed to make me laugh a few times, which is not something I can say about modern whitewashed comedic films I've seen as of late. Used Cars might be a terrible movie from a cultural perspective, but at least it was made when films were still allowed to have balls. Big hairy smelly balls. I recommend seeing this film in tandem with D.C. Cab for maximum effect.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

CAPTAIN 'MURICA PUNCHES MAGNESIUM MAN

My main complaint about Age of Ultron was that the whole production felt a little too bloated. Too many characters, too many plotlines, too many setups, just too much everything. Civil War addresses this by scaling back the Avengers to more manageable portions. Spoilers below.
Taking the Hulk and Thor out of the picture gave us the chance to see all the other characters in a better light. One thing that stands out in Civil War is characterization.

I love the early scene wherein Cap and Black Widow are trying to teach Scarlet Witch the importance of stealth and covert operations. She's young, brash, and over-powered. This sets the precedent that the ensuing disaster would have been preventable.

A king is dead, and his son must... Avenge him. Enter the Black Panther who follows a narrative arc from vengeance to forgiveness. This could have just been a lazy setup for a Black Panther solo movie later. Instead Chadwick Boseman turns T'challa into a compelling character the audience can empathize with.

The interactions between Vision and Scarlette Witch serve to endear both characters to the audience.

The Characterization of Peter Parker is spot on! Spider-man steals the scene during the rare moments he's on screen. I feel like this is the first time they've ever really nailed the character of Peter Parker. He is--first and foremost--a geeky, exciteable teenager caught up in a battle between all the heroes he admires. He makes pop culture references, but he doesn't amuse the grown-up superheroes nearly as much as he amuses himself. Much can be made of the interaction between Stark and Parker, but for my money the brief exchange between Cap and Spidey is worth the price of admission.

My only real problem with Civil War is the shaky cam and dropped frames in the action scenes. I sat front row in the theatre, and all the shaking, quick cuts, and dropped frames made me feel a little nauseous. Luckily, the camera man took his epilepsy pill before shooting the big, iconic airport battle at the climax of the movie. This is the big-budget popcorn-fueled spectacle we all expect to see in a summer blockbuster: all the heroes fighting each other in grandiose fashion. During this battle Ant-man reverses his shrinking power to become Giant-man. I know it's corny as hell, but I couldn't stop myself from grinning. This is what a comic book movie is supposed to look like.

We the audience are left with the avengers divided, absolutely no heroes dead, and very little resolution at the end of the movie. It's clear that Black Panther and Spider-man will get their own solo films. Civil War does a fine job of trimming the fat of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, gives the characters enough screen time to make the audience care, and provides a jumping-off point for future adventures.

Avengers disassemble.
