I'm really ignorant to handheld gaming and Nintendo's confusing antics don't help... but how does the 2DS compare to a 3DS? I've been wanting to get an XL because of the bigger size eventually. The article reads that a 2DS plays all 3DS titles, but I don't know what else it can offer and do, or if some games don't work well on it. etc, clueless. But that price seems nice?
I own a 3DS XL and a 2DS. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

If you don't care about the 3D effect, the 2DS is great. It simply plays 3DS games in 2D. It has a comfortable form factor and is built like a brick. The battery life is better than a 3DS XL as well. People complain because it only has a mono speaker, but plug in headphones and you've got your stereo sound.

FWIW, my 8 year old nephew has beat the everloving crap out of his and it still works great.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with the 2DS. I just recommend the New 3DS over it. You can't go wrong either way, especially for that price.

2DS has mono sound on unit (stereo headphones), NO 3D slider, and it's solid like a tablet so it's open to damage without a puffy pouch/case for it.

Other than that, personal comfort issues really. If you have no use for 3D (or gives headache/blind to it) and don't mind having 1 speaker like most their past handhelds anyway, it's fine and cheap. Battery lasts fine, it's not lower than the others. I have been tempted by it more than once, just never bit.

I got the new 3ds xl for 139.00 at my retro store. Did a trade to get it and I have right now
Nes remix
Zelda ocarina of time
Batman
Mega man collection
I bring it to work all the time now. I have an hr lunch so it's perfect for me. I want to pick up some of the Nintendo franchises but gotta wait. At least a lot of the games are only under 20.00 these days

Pace yourself that's a good start for lunch. Finish something before buying more. While off the radar with age Castlevania is fantastic, a mix of Castlevania3+SOTN+God of War (life/health growth and combo attack mechanics) and it plays well. Also Ace Combat is quite solid on there too.

Ohh I know that nes remix is great. Unless I see first party titles for like 4.00 or some crazy price like that, I'm off to a good start.
If I buy another smash brothers I can play against my son? And what about those amibo's? Do they add anything special to the game or was Nintendo capitalizing the whole Spyro thing

I believe you can, I don't MP with it.

Amiibo is an odd bird with that game. The game works with each that have a chip in them, it counts as a custom character under that face, and you can raise their stats by playing/doing challenges in the game which raise their stats better over the stock people within.

I ended up bagging mine with a screwball local deal cheap after it came out, used it maybe 3-4hours and it bored me as I'm just over it as it's stale and bloated for a single player gamer. I'm selling mine if you want it I'll work with you on the price. Rather it go to you and the kid than some random ebay shmuck. I'd let it go for $20, and I'll cover the shipping (it's up here now for $20 + shipping which would be like $3.) It sells on ebay standard for $25 shipped or a little more based on condition in full disclosure for a used copy.

Yeah, I disagree on this. Castlevania on 3DS isn't bad, but (in my opinion) ended up being less enjoyable than any of the DS or GBA releases. Combat didn't feel very good to me, and the platforming/level design weren't interesting either.

That said, I found God of War games to mostly be flashy but empty button-mashing experiences that I could happily live without. If you loved those games, and find yourself thinking: "if only Castlevania could be more like that series", then you'll probably love Mirror of Fate.

I get how some people might consider it an underrated gem.
I consider it a fairly rated, second-tier game that's great if you stumble into an aggressive sale but not worth tracking down otherwise.

The god of war aspects I enjoyed the least, the asinine combos at least, but the rest I found felt quite a lot like classic Castlevania 3 with a mix of the SOTN style map layout since it's not stage based.

I could also suggest easily Code of Princess and the 3D physical release of Cave Story as they're both great. If you are an 80s pinball junkie the tables packed into the card version of Pinball Arcade is a must... Black Knight, Space Shuttle, Pinbot, Funhouse, and more on there ...I can vouch for PinBot since i own the table, and it makes it feel a little more real with the depth flipped on.
